Car advice

I'm thinking of getting car. Its been a few years the last time I had a car and maybe I just miss how handy it is to have one.

I got rid of my car before college, too expensive too keep. I was in a city and buses were good. So that made sense.

But back at home and I wont say im living in the middle of nowhere as there are buses but the bus times haven't changed since the 60s. The last bus home from town is at 6pm and taxis would rob you.

It rains alot and having a car keeps you dry.

However, im also on the dole. Even going for an interview, and relying on buses, you would have to stay overnight and that 40s spent on a b&b can maybe be spent on petrol and be up and down in the one day.

I have a small bit of savings left to get a cheap car. Maybe around 2k. But after that im running a car on the dole. I live at home and saving €20 a week and putting it towards bills covers my share of bills. I buy my own food. I dont drink or smoke.

So if I was to live on €100 a week. €20 towards bills, is it possible to run a car on €68 a week. Thats my 188 a week. To include petrol, insurance, tax.

Im thinking maybe €40 a week on petrol. €10 for tax. This can be payed every 3 months. So over 12 weeks, I would have €120 for tax. Would this cover tax on a small car. And then €18 a week for insurance, which im hoping to pay monthly, so that would be €72 a month. So over a year, it would be about €860 on insurance. I have a full license, 30 year old female, 0 years NCB. Insurance cant be anymore than this, can it.

So is it a good idea?
