    Hi all,

well i will be looking to join a new club in 2014 and was wondering if others here know of membership deals for 2014 in the dublin area.

i played edmonstown recently - lovely course but membership is approx 1700 plus joining fees. so a bit pricey there.

in fact membership seems to be more expensive in general lately? or is that just me.

Lucan also has joining fees of approx 7000 euro plus i think 1100 euro yearly sub. played it, thought it was nice but 7k joining fees is too much really.

    anybody else have info?

played royal tara also - nice course but heard rumors of financial woes - don't know if true.

The 7k for Lucan is over 5 years, so it's ~€1700 per year. Expensive for what it is. Are you under 30?

Op, whats the joining fee for Edmondstown ? Is the €1700 the annual sub then ?

I think Newlands is €5k joining fee, spread over 3 or 5 years, not sure which, plus the sub (no idea what the sub is).

Further out from the suburbs there's a wealth of choices in or around the €1k annual sub & no joining fee. I know Slade Valley is €900 from now until Dec 2014. Others I don't know for sure, but they'll mostly be in that ballpark.

It'll be a balancing act between distance from the city & cost.

    Not under 30 - sigh

I agree it's pricey for that course.

The edmonstown website said the joining fee is 10k - don't know how accurate that is, but if true then it's a bit OTT.
I mean luttrellstown is approx 2k a year no joining fee and a far better course. But I think membership numbers are low.

If you live anywhere within reasonable driving distance, Royal Tara is fantastic value for money. Superb course, great membership, lovely clubhouse. There were some short term cashflow problems there but this was due to the huge cost of preparing the course for the GUI Cup and Shield finals recently along with the usual problems that most clubs are having these days. I would have no hesitation in recommending Tara to anybody thinking of joining a club. I am not a member of Royal Tara now but was a very happy member there for 19 years, work and house move meant I could not commute to play there.

    Hi Glencarrig,
I've played Tara about 5 or 6 times over the summer and enjoyed it every time. I can drive there in about 35mins. The toll is avoidable but good of you're in a rush. I don't know what membership for 2014 would be but it's a course I'd definitely give strong consideration to.

Yeah, I'd a feeling they had a hefty joining fee alright. Way, way overpriced for what that place is IMO.

A few of my mate's mates joined Edmonston a couple of years ago, and they didn't pay a joining fee.
Not 100% on that, but there wouldn't be the lads that would have that to burn and they only stuck around for a year.
I'll ask him what the story was, maybe it was a once off offer a while back or they got in under a restricted playing rights deal etc.

Maybe they did a hit and run

    Forrest little worth considering

Palmerstown House seems really good value. The new owners are trying to attract new Members and the course is improving with the renewed attention it's getting. A lovely course, it's worth a look if it's near enough to you.

    Forrest little worth considering

Nice course and it would be a consideration but full membership is still €1,440 which is overpriced in my opinion. Not much offerings from competition in the area with the likes of St. Margarets, Roganstown etc all well in excess of €1,300.

Thinking of Black Bush in Dunshaughlin for next year, nice 27 holes complex with good practice facilities for under €1k which is still a lot of money.

Spoke to royal tara this morning €1072 all in for 2014. Not a bad deal.

Good man, might see you down there soon.

I joined Roganstown today and I'm hoping to play in my first club competition on Saturday.

The club has been a pleasure to deal with and I'm really looking forward to forming a long happy relationship with the place.

Welcome to Roganstown- I'm a member two years- if your stuck for a game gis a shout- I'm playing early sat morning this week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭ryaner777

Corballis membership for next year if €565 under the refer a friend scheme (including playing rights in Elm Green)

Both the current and new member will get it at that price and the price is guaranteed for the next 3 years if both members stay with the club.

So any members out there want to help me get this deal ? I'll be joining next weekend. First club and first proper handicap.

What price did you get membership for? Good quality track with good practice facilities and always enjoyed my round there. It's a 20 min drive so worthy of membership consideration but can't justify their asking price of €1,450 or so.

Corrstown have membership from now till end 2014 for e1390 all in. I believe they have a few staged payment options too.

Heard that Edmonstown have reduced their enterance fee to €750 but sub is still close to €2k.

Yes, rest of year is included. Spoke to them myself this week as thinking about joining.

"Entrance fees" are a thing of the past. Most clubs have got rid of them, those keeping them will get rid of them shortly.

I think you'd be mad going anywhere charging a joining fee, likelyhood is it will be gone in a year or two, and you'll have put a few grand down the swanny. Plenty of courses in Dublin between the 900-1200 per year mark that are good quality.

Lisheen Springs is €1080 for 2014. Monthly direct debit payments are available.

There will always be some clubs that charge entrance fees. They will be the top class golf courses and the city clubs that attract a certain social sect.

O yeah without a doubt. But there are just as many top quality courses that don't charge an entrance fee. Like my club at the moment is in a bit of a weird spot, but if I had to pick a new club tomorrow no way I'd go anywhere that charged an entrance fee.

    €1,450 payable monthly

    Hi,
Anyone else thinking of Joining Roganstown let one of the members on here know. There is a referal fee that the member gets back of €150. I'D be happy to throw it back to you if you want to use my name.
Also if you pay in full you get the Gym/pool steam room/sauna thrown in which is a nice extra. might be a better idea to pay by credit card and pay that off than spread it over 8 months.

    Mike

1400 for Roganstown seems steep to me, just my opinion.
Forget about their 10k joining fee or whatever it was a few years ago.

Keep this post up top folks - surely it is one of the main reasons people visit the golf forum around this time of year.

As I understand it, Edmondstown have a significant discount on at present.
If someone is in position to confirm details, please post.

180 euro of that is insurance, gui levy, bar/restaurant levy. i know what you mean though it's a lot of money. depends on how often you play i suppose.
