Just back from a horrible cycle and tried to upload it.

Plug the garmin into my mac like I've done countless number of times but rather than go in to file transfer mode it powers on like its about to start a ride.

Any one have any idea how to fix this?

I held down the page/menu/enter tab and was able to upload it in the end

I've had that issue since the last software upgrade - mac doesn't seem to recognise the garmin and the garmin screen says 'working' for quite sometime. Eventually, after doing the same as you it seems to work but have since found that connecting to a windows machine works first time without any issues.

Just sounds like the software upgrade and apple don't like each other....

Do you keep having to hold the menu button each time you upload to a Mac? Pain in the arse. Only use windows in work

Yep - I was nearly buying a new edge as I thought it was kapput! Glad I tried it on the pc. Just check the garmin site and make sure all the software and pluggins are up to date. If I come across anything I'll post here too.

Was having trouble uploading a ride yesterday. The garmin would charge but was not being recognised/found as a "mass storage device" by the pc. It turned out the USB cable must have been faulty as I tried another one and it synched up no bother.

Same here. Macbook won't pick up the Garmin after the latest software update, no problem with Windows based PC.

Something like this happened to me recently - very erratic behaviour on connection to PC, but OK after using a new cable (+ one of my PC USB slots may be dodgy also). (Of course the OP's problem may be unrelated)

    just seen this thread..
not sure godtabh if it's to do with you having version OS X 10.5.8?
I just started a thread on the problem I had dowloading a route to my edge via garmin/ via imac, it wouldn't work..
It might be your device or it might be that you need to upgrade your mac?

Same happened to me today on my Windows 7 PC, Strava insisting I didn't have the Garmin Connector Plugin, which I do and even after re-installing it it wouldn't recognise the connected Garmin. Was able to upload file by manually browsing into the Garmin.

Was uploading via a Mac book pro with mavericks. No issue with it on Thursday the first time I uploaded after the latest update

I too have had a few issues in the last few days (Macbook user), with no previous issues in the past, and I think it's a software problem.

The Garmin isn't picking up when I connect it. I went to the Garmin site for support and it asks you to update your USB driver, but then brings you to a page where there's only a download for Windows PCs.

Haven't found a definite solution but if I do I'll post here.

I've just updated to OS x Mavericks and the Garmin is recognised straight away. I think then that the last Garmin software upgrade was to make it compatible with mavericks and older os aren't backwards compatible (mine is a few years old) without the upgrade. At least that is my theory.

Just updated to OS X Mavericks and tried again - still no joy.

    Hello all,
Was out for a spin in the rain on Sunday and when I got back and tried to sync my Garmin wasn't getting picked up. So I gave it a while to dry out I suppose, but with no success.

Anyway problem is when I plug in the Garmin to either my laptop or PC it powers up (where usually it stays off) and charges and Strava or garmin connect does not pick it up. It doesn't appear in my computer as a storage device either! It is stuck in Sunday too, if I look in history and activities it still says that my Sunday spin was today and the clock has read 15:21 ever since, which I'm pretty sure is the time I turned it off on Sunday.

I've tried all the USB ports on both laptop and PC (both Windows) and have tried two different cables.

    Any ideas??
    Thanks

Connect it to your PC via the USB cable. Once it starts charging, press and hold the power button...this should force it to switch to drive mode and it should appear in windows explorer. This works with the edge 705.

Tried this but all it does is restart and powers up as "normal" :(

Rang Garmin Customer services just there now and they are going to take it back for repair or replace. She tried a few tricks to get it working over the phone but to no avail. Gonna stick it the post today and will let you know what comes back.
Have it more than a year, bought August 2012, no mention of warranty or anything like that.

Same was happening to me on Windows 7 and also had to upload manually so I dug around on Strava and they say there's an issue with the recent update on IE11 which they are waiting on Garmin to fix. In the meantime they suggest using Firefox or Google Chrome. I used Chrome just a few minutes ago and it worked fine-all rides/runs uploaded correctly
