RAM Issue

hi, i recently got my first ever custom pc from hardwareversand and was having some troubles getting my monitor to display properly. After almost tearing my hair out for a few days and about to bring it somewhere for repair i eventually realised it was a RAM issue that was causing the problems.

The motherboard is an ASROCK 970 EXTREME3 and it supports dual channel memory. There are 4 ram slots and i had one of the ram sticks in the A1 slot and the other in the B1 slot, now that is the combination the manual says to use for dual channel memory (along with A2 - B2)

    RAM LAYOUT ON MOTHERBOARD
    A1 - A2 - B1 - B2

When i had the RAM in them slots (and A2 & B2) the monitor was stuck in power save mode, but if i changed the RAM to different slots (A1 & A2, B1, B2) the PC displayed perfectly.

So i've a few questions now
    1) Is there a significant difference between dual channel memory and single?
    2) Is there anything i can do to try and fix this problem?
    3) Is this problem enough to warrant me returning this motherboard, or should i just learn to live with it?

    any help appreciated

leave the RAM out in a field for a night , it'll be as good as new the next day.
