Houblon des Obeaux day

A great day tomorrow, some very good jumps at Ascot and I think the Mares' race at Wetherby is a seriously good one. Not one to get involved with financially but Une Artiste looks a big price, Mischievous Milly created a really good impression the day she won her maiden and I did my nuts on that nag of George's.

Have had a nice each way bet on the hopefully well handicapped Houblon des Obeaux at Ascot at 16s, while I think Dance and Dance has found a good opportunity to finally get his head in front at Newmarket at 8/1.

Also think The Fugue is worth taking on tomorrow, and hopefully Magician can produce a good run to win it.

Think Court Minstrel is overpriced at 6/1 in the listed hurdle at Ascot tomorrow. If the ground doesn't get any softer I'll be having a decent bet. Fancied a little each way double on First Lieutenant/Beneficient but only having 7 runners in both of those races has ruined that! If Dank and The Fugue both win I'm buying a new car.

Vedani was sold and gone to tony Carrolls yard and running in the first at ascot. Always looked a better horse than he was..interesting to see if anything comes of the move

First Lieutenant, Wise Dan and like the look of Coolmore's Havana. Hoping to hear in the same way they used to say here comes Zenyatta but Havana this year.;)

    Ascot

I'm on the Houblon Des Obeaux bandwagon too @ 16/1. Backed him for the RSA at fancy prices last season and he was well backed coming into the race IIRC. A couple of jumping errors knocked him out of any rhythm he had in that race. He won his first two starts last season against some decent types then ran some good races behind the likes Third Intention, Captain Conan (over a trip too short) and Rocky Creek. He was poor towards the back-end of the season so maybe early on is the time to catch him. Needs every inch of the 3m but as long as his jumping is tidy and he doesn't make any costly errors, I think he'll be staying on to bang there come the business end tomorrow.

    Wetherby

Agree with everything already said about Long Run @ 11/8. One of the novices is going to have to show serious improvement to beat him tomorrow. Unlikely first time out IMO. I don't think the likes of Unioniste will have the guts to pass Long Run even if they're fitter and he's not on form anyway. As exposed as Long is, he's as gutsy as they come when eyeballed in a fight. Listening to the owner speak over the last week, it sounds like he's keen to pick up every penny possible with the horse while he can. Tomorrow would be a decent start.

    Down Royal

Backed both First Lieutenant @ 3/1 and Mount Benbulben ew @ 6/1 for the 3miler earlier in the week. Just can't be having Sizing Europe at all and he makes the market IMO. He's shown absolutely nothing to suggest he'll get 3m well enough to beat tomorrows rivals. If FL is fit enough, he'll take all the beating and if MB jumps any way tidy, his engine should give him a chance round a course that should suit perfectly. Kauto Stone could do his yearly Down Royal trick and beat both but just can't trust that horse.

    Santa Anita

The dominance we seen tonight probably wont continue to tomorrow night but I fancy the two Europeans to fight out The Turf. I've backed The Fugue @ 9/4 and had a ew bet on Magician @ 6/1. Both should love the ground.

Also had a small each way bet on Declaration of War @ 7/1 in The Classic. have never been his biggest fan but he's proved this year that he's as game as they come and given his toughness and his American breeding, I think he's got a real chance of causing a mini-upset. There's been a lot of positive talk about him from over there and for once it hasn't just been AOB and the lads talking him up.

My NAP of the day is Wise Dan @ evens in the Mile. Forget his last run. His chances of winning were seriously diminished when that race was switched to the poly track, which itself was a pool. People forget that the horse has been beaten before, in his early days, and with Keenland fans making a big deal of him running there the trainer probably felt obliged to at least let him take his chance on another surface. From watching the race, it was clear that the winner reveled on the surface while Wise Dan simply stayed on at the same pace. His run in the Woodbine Mile before that was nothing more than a canter for him and he still broke the track record. As good an even money shot as you'll find IMO.

I've also had a small fourfold: HDO to place (3/1), Long Run, FL, Wise Dan

In other news, I think Liverpool are a great price, at 12/5, to beat Arsenal tomorrow evening. It's no coincidence that Arsenal have lost both games since Flamini got injured. They just don't have another player of his type to protect the back 4. Liverpool are specifically set up to allow Suarez and Sturridge the freedom to run at defences. I can see the slow Mertesacker and rash Koscielny being totally exposed and cut to pieces, by Suarez especially. It's only a question of whether Liverpool can negate Ozil and Giroud and the other end IMO as can't see Liverpool not getting goals.

Might even throw them in with the 4 horses for a megatron accumulator yet! :D

I firmly believe FL will get his big day in down royal finally. It'll be between Kauto stone if he returns to any sort of from and FL.

Hi guys, have never really put a bet on before but am feeling brave today! Just had a quick read of the posts here about horses racing today but its like another language. Can anyone give me any tips on which horses to bet on? And tell me how to do it like if I'm betting on more than one horse or if I have to say the time they're racing or anything . Thanks! :)

Jimjaco's selections above look good to me (don't know about wise dan as I'm not a flat racing man)

If you want to do trebles just write treble or accumulator at the top of the bet slip

Put racecourse, time of race and selection followed by win or e/w or place and the amount you hope to bet

Personally if you have a debit card you could set up an account with one or many bookmakers and receive opening offers such as place your first bet and receive matched bets up to 50euro.
    Go to odds checker.com

    Other selections for me today
    L'unique in ascot
    Rolling aces NAP down royal
    Tidal bay in wetherby
One fine day in down royal
    Ivor's king NAP ascot

Just opened an a/c with Sports Winner to take 6/4 Long Run

Clicked on 6/4 to place the bet. The bet is now successfully placed but as it was being placed they changed the price to 5/4 and placed my wager at that price without warning the price had changed or asking me if I wanted to accept the lower price. Simply gave me 5/4 when I placed the bet with 6/4 on the Bet slip. Thread very cautiously with that shower

****ing jokers, I'll try that alright

In the past I posted here that Hills are often biggest on Henderson horses when they run first time out and you find out after the race they're either unfit or have had a problem

They are not anywhere near biggest Long Run today

Very good offer here on sportingbet, like 365's except doesn't have to be 4/1

Back the winner of the Charlie Hall Chase (Wetherby 3.35) on Saturday and we’ll give you a free bet (to the same value of your stake) for that race and every other C4 winner you picked earlier in the day.

You can even back Long Run and get a free bet!

    Probably filthy t&cs though

Long Run very strong this morning, to my amazement Powers let me have €125 on at 11/8 before the Sports Winner debacle

2.16 on Betfair and the price seems to only be going one way. 5/4 still generally there with the bookies

    From Nicholls Betfair column:
    15:35 Wetherby - Unioniste

Although he slightly disappointed us when only managing to finish fourth in the RSA at Cheltenham, you shouldn't forget that he did exceptionally well to do what he did over fences last season given his age. He became the first ever four-year-old to win the Paul Stewart Ironspine Charity Challenge last December. Yes, that win only came off a mark of 143, with his four-year-old allowance and Harry taking 5lb off, but the manner of his 11 length defeat of Walkon was pretty impressive all the same. And, with another summer on his back, you would be hopeful that he can continue his way up the chasing ladder this season. Whether or not taking on a horse as good as Long Run at this stage of his career, and getting only 4lb, comes a bit too soon for him we will see today. I personally think he is very short in the betting and has a mountain to climb on form! But he certainly goes to Wetherby fit and in good form.

After wading in with the rest of the forum myself on Long Run. Also very keen on Medinas now that At Fishers Cross is out. Looked very good until disappointing in the Aintree hurdle last time.
Will also most likely be wading in with a few in some of the big hc's but am waiting for the exchange markets to even out a bit.

Only bet today is Toner Doudairies in the Powers Chase at Down Royal. 11/2 is a big price I think. Three good wins in the last 6 weeks the last against Roi Du Mee and a returning unfit First Lieutenant at Punchestown. Excellent jumper and really looks an improving sort. Bryan Cooper keeps the ride as Davy has picked Tofino Bay (trained by Dessie incidentally). Oscars Well wasn't too impressive at Naas and Texas Jack & Rolling Aces are only returning so I think TD will have enough to beat them.

Might as well be hung for a sheep as for a lamb! 0.5 points each way Buddy Bolero at 8/1

Ive gone for Same Difference in the Houblon des Obeaux race. October and early November is generally the best time for NTD horses.

Also gone for Harry Topper in the Charlie Hall. Im a big fan of the horse and think he was unlucky in his last two starts. He could be very useful but its a tough race so the stakes are small but Im reasonably confident of a big run.

Same difference is a fave of mine, had nice pot on him on him at the festival! I think the weights won't do him any favours today and wouldn't be surprised if he was being saved for a 3m-4m at Cheltenham with his course form.

Keeping well thanks. Glad the jump season is back.
Thinking the same myself, maybe even one the Hennessy gold cup next year.
But Ryan claiming 7lbs, gave him a good ride at the festival, just couldn't resist a bit of e/w at 12's.
