    Hi All,
I have a mature beech hedge about eight feet tall planted around 15 years ago. At present the side of the hedge is about four feet out from the trunks of the plants. I'd like to cut this back to about two feet. Would this ruin the hedge and if not what would be the best time to do it. Thanks. :)

I think the face of the hedge would be ruined but a picture would better able a more informed opinion from here

I have a beech tree and I was recommended to trim it back in high summer.

I've seen them cut back in the winter too and they've survived. It'll grow leaves back, so that shouldn't be a problem. Maybe cut it back halfway first to see how it reacts...
