Upgrade shifters only ?

    It's only a 7 speed rear mech, not sure you'll find compatible modern shifters.

    You might find some in Rothar but it's probably not worth upgrading, sell it or keep it as a hack/city commuter when he gets a better bike.

    Shimano Tiagra 4600 Groupset reduced in price, would someone be kind enough to tell me if it will fit the above bike without any issues as I've not got a clue myself, cheers :)

    I should fit fine, but at that price, I'd sell your current bike and put the €350 with the proceeds and get a good second hand bike with Tiagra / 105.

    You should get one around the €500 mark. The benefit of this option would be better frame & wheels, upgrade to a carbon fork as well you will save the €80 or so it would got to get a mechanic to install the new groupset.

    The freehub on the rear wheel may only accept 7 spd.

    Have you bought the Halfords bike yet? If you're going to spend €700 all in you'll get a bike with a Tiagra Groupset and better...everything.
