Bright Green Diesel?

    Folks,

Not much of a car person so bear with me -

I filled up my car with diesel today in a garage close to where I work, not one I had used before I might add. I filled it so far up there was a little spillage and I noticed that the diesel was a bright green colour.

Is this normal, or is this possibly the illegal stuff?

    Thanks

I find a lot of branded diesel is light green. Once it's not dark green you're fine.

    Thanks for the reply.

Humm... the diesel in that pic looks more yellow than green to me.

This stuff was along the lines of your standard green washing up liquid colour, something along these lines -

Another pic. I put it beside green stuff and thought there was naff all difference between them. Certainly smells like road diesel, there's a different smell from green and seems to be a little more fluid, green was a bit more viscous

Ya, the colour towards the top of the bottle in that 2nd pic looks more along the lines of what I spotted today.

I don't think it's washed myself if that's another concern. Best advice I can give is to make sure you get a receipt with every fill

So.. you reckon I'm ok... and I don't have a tank full of illegal stuff?

    I kept the receipt alright.

    Thanks for the advice.

I'd safely say you're ok. The only danger is that it's washed, which I don't think it is

Ah, I was thinking this was covered before :) see here, I hope this answers your q fully on the colour :D

    Thanks, appreciate the assistance.

It's a petrol station that was recently taken over by Applegreen. I've never used it until today. They're selling diesel at 140.8 a litre which is the lowest I've seen. The next Applegreen, 20 miles down the road are selling for 143.8 which I thought was a bit odd.

Was a bit taken back when I see the colour of it today, and was a bit weary about it.

Bottle on the left best describes what I got today.

AFAIK, the green tinge (almost flourescent) in some diesel is caused by biodiesel being added. Too high a concentration is bad for the high pressure system in your car. I think 7% is the limit.

Any biodiesel I've ever seen is a dark muddy colour, considering WVO is a colour similar to cola it's only natural the colour changes to resemble that

I think you may have hit the nail on the head here there lads re: biodiesel.

Applegreen state on their website that they add 5% biodiesel, so I'm assuming that this is what is creating the fluorescent green tint.

I did stop and fill a small bottle this morning. It's definitely green... but more-so a fluorescent lighter green with a yellow tint. Disaster averted

    Thanks folks, appreciate the assistance.
