The only wrestling theme i can think of, shared by a TV show in the 80s is the theme from Saturday Night Main Event, which was shared with a show on Super Channel (fashion TV perhaps?) .

I am not sure, the wrestler does have a world wide name, well I would regard him as having one anyway, but I have made it tough.

My first exposure outside of my homeland was in a feud with a deceased champion.

Do you mean an actual dead champion or some one who is an undead like character?

Ill give you credit, its a good one

All the hints I have given in one post, will not be giving anymore.
I started out with a handful of future World Heavyweight Champions in the 80's although I would not hold the title myself.

My first exposure outside of my homeland was in a feud with a deceased champion.

I overcame a potential life threatening condition.

I also have a dark side.

My entrance song is taken from a TV show that started in the late 80's.

I am the innovator of a move that has led to many real life serious injuries in the ring.

    Jushin "Thunder" Liger Explained

    Justin_Thunder_Liger.jpg

I started out with a handful of future World Heavyweight Champions in the 80's although I would not hold the title myself.

I entered the NJPW Dojo with the likes of Masahiro Chono, Shinya Hashimoto and Keiji Mutoh, all of whom were IWGP Heavyweight Champions as some point

My first exposure outside of my homeland was in a feud with a deceased champion.

I made my TV debut in the US with WCW against Brian Pillman, losing in my attempt to win the Light Heavyweight championship, although I would go on to win it a few weeks later, before dropping it back to Pillman.

I overcame a potential life threatening condition.

I suffered a near fatal brain tumor in 1996

I also have a dark side.

    2hg925c.jpg

My entrance song is taken from a TV show that started in the late 80's.

My enterence theme is taken from the anime called Jushin Liger ( Beast God Liger )

I am the innovator of a move that has led to many real life serious injuries in the ring.

I was the creator of the Shooting Star Press.

    - my first job was to look after a bad puppy

    - I made my next debut with a Million Dollar Baby...

    - before going back to baby-sitting another rich kid

    - returned from some time away after finding my true self, much to everyone's surprise

    - and dug a friend out of a rut he'd been buried in :pac:
