Is any-one else as super excited about this as me.
Being a big Strategy / Turn Based / Shooter /Base Building / RPG fan the release last year had everything I wanted.
The new one is a re-mix of more of the same but with the kid of "right" tweaks developers should be doing.

been looking forward to it for months, since the teaser at pax actually :)

it looks as though a tonne of work has been put into it, as it's an enormous expansion, more than half the size of the original game which was pretty big considering it takes days to complete a campaign on easy.

It's just a shame we've to wait til the 15th to get it here :/

Similar to others, reviews first and then purchase. Though honestly, it'll have to be pretty bloody crap for me not to get it. TBS pickings are slim these days, tactical TBS especially.

And I had such high hopes for the last Jagged Alliance instalment

I got this last night: http://store.steampowered.com/app/237470/

I've not played it much but it looks alright. Very Battle Isle-esque. Cheaper on GoG.com too, which I didn't notice until later. :P

GreenManGaming just emailed me about 25% off voucher, one of the games that it works on is the XCOM expansion. It should be advertised on their website.

Sooo…. I've been on this for 2 days, was very rusty I have to say (already lost 2 countries on Classic difficulty - whatever the one between Normal and Impossible is). Completely ballsed up my tech tree, didn't get new armour or guns. Even made some bad solider skill tree decisions (choosing Mayhem for Heavies when I didn't take Scatter rockets). Not taking newbies on enough missions. Bending over and promptly presenting my rear end to Exhalt to annihilate. Among many other things.

Basically think I need to restart.
I'm in month 4 and I'm still using all basic armour/weapons and don't have any MECs or Gene mods.

Anyway, I went and did some refresher course reading on tips for the original game and realised what I was doing wrong.
I'm so far gone now that a restart is painful, but necessary.

So even though I've slogged away for like 10-12 hours I still have never used MELD :D

    I do like the following:
Some of the soldier skills, feels like I might set my 2 assaults and 2 supports per squad up differently now
Medals, only just started using them
    The ethnically correct accents
The new maps (though i did find a bug in one of them, big area you can't move to)

    What I did not like:
Exhalt having such good AI and using rocket launchers. Those missions are HARD as f**k

Where would be the cheapest place to buy this?

Steam has X-Com: Enemy Within at 33% discount until Jan 2nd.
    E20.09 cost

Just getting into this now, I forgot how rage inducing this game can be.

Had my sniper throw out the scanner, revealing no enemies in the area, and begin moving my six troopers forward, everything going well, put two of them on over watch, and move one unit slightly forward of the rest. ENDTURN.

Two chryssalids spawn right on the scanner, and move toward my troopers, triggering both overwatchs. Both miss. They finish moving about two tiles from my forward trooper. Now it's their turn, and they don't really miss.

    FUUUUUUUUU-

    :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Chryssalids have screwed me on more than one occasion, particularly that Operation Slingshot mission.

tip, use your 1st actions to move all your troops, once you have all your movement done, cycle back through your squad and apply overwatch, it stops your guys overwatch trigging while it's still "your turn" so to speak. Also, it's best to have each unit about 2 squares back/away from each other so you don't get all 4 units overwatch shooting at 1 unit while a 2 second unit walks up to you with no issues

Oh yes, it's how I normally operate, but as I had checked out the area with my scanner, I didn't think it was necessary to put all six on. My mistake, one I didn't repeat again. Scanner is next to useless on certain "story" missions.

Just finished my first run through of it last night, impressed with the changes, enjoyed the base defense a fair bit too.

Now, on to try out Total War: Rome now. Got to love a fibre connection, downloading at 7.2 MB/s.

Arghhhhh! 4 of my main squad wiped out by Heavy Mutons and Heavy Floaters! Kill the last Muton before 2 of my guys bleed out, think I'm in the clear . . . . Another Heavy Muton and Floater barged through the door . . . . rage quit!!!!!

^ The game is some much more tense before you get Caraspace armour :D

The 1st few times I played the Base Defense, I had only ballistic weapons and armour as i'd used the "make items available" button… DO NOT MAKE THAT MISTAKE… google it! The attack is after you attack the alien base. Make sure your top 6 soldiers are armed to the teeth
