Our house has an Astec alarm probably fitted around 2003, last night the alarm went off for no reason. I spoke to the emergency contact who talked me through disconnecting the fuse and battery.

We're now looking for somebody to service / repair the alarm, I've spoke to Gard Alarms and he suggested posting here as the alarm is now quite old and specialised.

Should be fairly easily to sort. The systems are obsolete besides keypad panel or bell issues everything else can be sorted. What error are you getting?

Well right now we need it resetting because we don't the alarm code, everything is currently disconnected. Not sure if its a one off fault.

That's an easy enough job. It's really down to what activated it after that.

Yup, hopefully its a one off activation, do you know any engineers who'd be able to work with the Astec?

Most installers would be well up on Astec.
    Where are you located?

When the system activated did it say what the problem was before you down powered it? The panel and keypad are obsolete but if working then any issue on this system can be sorted.
A lot of company's out there just want to rip it out and install a new system.
When all it takes is the understanding of the system plus in most cases a simple repair.

My elderly neighbour has a similar problem and she has had two alarm companies out and all they want to do is to sell her a new alarm for approx €900. Her alarm is installed about 7 years. I don't know the make yet but can get it. The man that installed it is gone out of business but in the last few days he did text her the engineer's code. Any idea as to how much it would costs to have it reset and serviced. We are in Meath.

Your best bet is to get someone out to look at it and give you a quote for repair. Agree beforehand to no repair no fee.
Don't accept a new system is required from anyone who is not willing to try and repair it first.
This could easily be repaired for under €100

Thanks for that. Will pass it onto her. Will keep you posted on how she gets on.

Just to update on this as my neighbour is getting it hard to get anyone to fix her alarm. Can anyone recommend any alarm company in the Meath area that would do this rather then try and sell her a new alarm.
    Thanks.

If a lad isn't willing to take a look first then they don't deserve the installation anyway IMO.
Your best bet is look at company's who have installed Astec over the years. There's too many new company's only interested in fresh easy wireless installs. They either don't know, or don't want to know how to repair.

Hi there I too have an astec system an it was a nightmare to find anyone to reset it after I moved in then I was told that I need two batteries, one for the dummy box and one for the panel, I was told what to do to put in my new battery but when I opened the lid of the panel the tamper button was reset and now I can't get anyone to come out to fix it for me so I'm left alarmless once again!!! I'm in the tallaght area does anyone have any suggestions?!?!? Thanks!!!

Take a look at the sticky or the PSA register. There are still plenty of companies well able to repair Astec. Others are just looking for a quick sale.

anyone know where I can get an astec keypad for an astec 63 system?

    New? You will be lucky.
I have a few second hand ones around if you want to swap out the PCB.
    What's happening with yours?

Sorry for resurrecting this thread long after it died but a daughter of mine who lives in Enfield County Meath is in trouble with an Astec 63 Alarm.

She had a Battery fault and obtained a replacement and had it fitted. However then she got a Bell fault and the engineer doesn't want to get any involved any further.

She is seriously strapped and can't afford to get a new system fitted from scratch. I was wondering if there any suggestions on repairing the fault or on how best to cope with the problem.

    Thanks
    Dave

A bell fault is the internal bell. She could disconnect it from the system then reconnect it to see if it comes back on line. May even be a loose connection in the control panel on the sounder bus.

Thanks for the reply Altor, It may take a bit of time to get the checks done but I'll report back with any update.
