    Guys,

I don't class myself as a heavy user but I am surprised how quickly I build up my usage.

Ok... so, my current usage is as follows (april 2013 to now):

I was going a little mad last year, and here is for the previous time frame (Sept 2012-mar 2013):

I got a call about Nov and Dec usage, but after they fixed their meaning of Unlimited (UPC) they have not asked any silly questions...

by the way, i got 2x200mb UPC lines into the house and a Magnet FatPipe... not at the machine to get the FatPipe info, but its probably about 2/7ths the usage as above (the magic of the MikroTik Routers!)

Curious why would you need 400mb of Bandwidth?

Usage falls off in July/August probably due to
    1) the kids aren't on Youtube as much
    2) there's less tv to...err..."stream" *cough*.

Thats a silly question! Its like asking "why have 60Gb of RAM?" "Why do you need 16+Tb of storage?" Answers to both of them is "why not? you nave never have enough of any of those!" And, yes, in one box i have 60Gb of RAM, but the 16+Tb is on various different machines...

Its a long story... back in the days of NTL when their max speed was only 600KBit/s (Yup... that far back) i was running servers in house. the sister used the connection too, and managed to take websites down a few times by downloading stuff she shouldent have (statue of limitations are gone on that). Anyway, she got her own 150kb/s line in... about 2 years ago, she moved out, so i inhereted the line and the bill... (yup, still living with parents at the age of 30, but who would leave a house with 470Mb/s down, 40Mb/s up!). Anyway, i got the 70/20mb Magnet connection out of curiosity, since there was no contract. And i have kept it since... I am moving to Vodafone in the next while, since they are giving me the 70/20 for 27EUR a month given i have everything else they sell...

So, long story short, its a history and redundancy...

Speaking of internet, i am switching out routers. Have a MikroTik RB1100, swapping in a Core 2 Quad 6600 machine... here is the latest screen grab of the bandwidth:

Good to know the UPC lines don't interfere with the other one or the Eircom line. I heard having two lines, like the ones Ericom use, can interfere with one another and cause high noise which slows the speed down.

I'm planning on switching to Vodafone myself next year, so I'll contribute to this thread then as I don't believe Sky keep tabs on their customers' usage.

UPC, they dont give a crap unless you are uploading at full band 24/7.
