Claiming tax back after maternity?

Hi, hoping someone can help me on this. I went on maternity leave on 14th January 2013. For the first 18 weeks I was getting maternity benefit topped up by my employer. For the next 8 weeks I got maternity benefit only.
I then took 16 weeks unpaid leave and I'm due back to work in 2 weeks.
My husband and I are joint assessed but I didn't transfer my tax credits to him. I'm on the higher rate of tax.
So, I'm assuming I will be due some tax back at the end of this year because i won't have used all my tax credits. Is that correct?

Yes sounds right. Wait until you get your P60 in Feb, then call the revenue and ask for a balancing statement and they should process it in a couple of weeks.

If your tax credits are on a cumulative basis , your payroll will update , and you could receive extra in your next pay run .

This could be 2 things : - Either a tax refund , or less tax paid on your gross income .( depending on the value of your gross pay in relation to your tax credits )
