Back in 1979/1980, Gerry Ryan, Ian Dempsey, Barry Lang, Marty Whelan were all young guys aged under 25. Why did 2fm stop hiring young DJs ? How many DJs under 40 do 2fm have these days ? less than 5 would be my guess.

They still did it in the '90's. The likes of Michael "the kid" Cahill, Will Leahy, Damien mcCaul, Ruth Scott.... Among others.

Paddy McKenna is the only one that comes to mind.

Chris Donoghue who does Breakfast on Newstalk with Ivan Yates is only 27 or 28 and he is fantastic.

There's a worrying lack of young presenters on radio in general, well Dublin radio. I mentioned it in another thread a few days back about Joan Lee moving to Nova, it's worrying that the same circle of presenters keep getting new shows. I have nothing against Joan but she was most likely approached by Nova, they didn't have to think outside the box on the issue. Spin and Fm104 are producing some younger presenters but stations still require presenters with on-air experience, I understand they need to be good but there are plenty of young presenters who can't get experience because no one will take them.
