Roughly, gas is 6.6 cents per kwh including vat, etc.
Therefore a 20kw boiler would cost roughly €1.32 to run for one hour.

If you want to know for sure, take a meter reading before & after running for one hour. This will give you the m3 of gas used. There is 10.8m3 in a m3 of gas but BGN reckon there is 11.4kwh per m3 \o/. So you are charged for a little but extra for nothing.

Thanks Shane, I have been meaning to ask how to convert m3 of gas to kwh.
Your sentence doesn't make sense, though, looks like a typo to me.,

Can you confirm that you meant to say

"There is 10.8kwh in a m3 of gas but BGN reckon there is 11.4kwh per m3"

I could not find the conversion on the BGN website,

I could not find the conversion on the BGN website,

All across Europe, including Russia & the North Sea gas, natural gas has an energy capacity of 10.8khw per m3.
BGN reckon they are getting 11.4kwh per m3 from Kinsale (which is nearly empty). For some magical reason Kinsale has more than 89-90% more methane than any other place in the world. Amazing gas it is!p

Energy companies charge by the kwh delivered not by volume so it is easier to charge more by saying there gas delivers a higher kwh per m3. So comparing with other countries it doesn't look that much more in reality it is.
