I have a Bushnell Tour v3 laser. Was out playing today and it managed to die some how.
A friend used it on one hole and managed to change it from yards to meters.Trying to change it back I tried holding down the button and taking the battery in and out a few times but now its just dead.

Checked the battery when I got home and id still showing 2.8v on a multimeter so dont think thats the problem.

Only about 4 months old and bought it in the states so not sure what the story is with warranty.

Any advice/help greatly appreciated. (obviously going to see if a new battery will do anything tomorrow)

Penalty for advice when your friend used it.

    Joking!

Mine just dies like that straight away when the battery is gone. No warnings of low batt or the likes. It always works fine with a new battery but as you say you checked yours.

Just try a fresh batt anyway. If no joy bring it back to where you got it.

See some of the V2 models on ebay going but it states that item has a battery drain problem.
The decription on the ebay ad suggests to remove the battery between rounds.

So maybe its a common enough fault, I'd return it if at all possible.

Cheers, hoping its just a battery thing. Had taken it out about 10 times trying to get it back to yards.

Out of curiosity how long would you expect to get from a battery (play twice a week and use it once a hole average)

Its definitely the battery, same thing happened mine this week, died without warning. New battery will sort it

What kind of battery is in it? 2.8v is nothing useful.

I have had 3 V2's in the last 18 months. First 2 had the battery drain problem in between rounds, the shop (big irish golf retailer) said to take battery out during rounds and i basically refused to and told them that it doesnt state that in manufacturers booklet and other devices appear to be working fine. Once they accepted that it was a device fault (despite saying they hadnt come across it before and looking at me with 2 heads), the bushnell rep provided a new one. It was only on my third one that the problem appears to have gone away. So basically get it replaced as it seemed to me to be a faultly batch.

Do not accept the you should take battery out in between use excuse as it will still be in for 5 hours during rounds with excessive battery drain. Its a fault so get it changed (helps if under warranty but if not you should still try).

I don't see how the OP is going to get to return it if he bought it in the states.

Would have a manufacturers warranty so i presume he'd have to deal directly with manufacturer instead of in my case where I could go through the local retailer. The manufacturer warranty is the same, just easier in my case as I could deal with a middle man (retailer) who have experience dealing with the manufacturers.

Alternatively he could deal with the retailer where he bought it via the internet and postal system but obviously not ideal.

Might also be worth asking the local retailers for the name and contact details of the irish bushnell rep and going this route. Just because something is bought in a different country doesnt automatically mean ur f'ed if it breaks charles

New Battery did the trick, thanks folks.

Tossing and turning all night at the thought I might have to work out yardages the old way!

Mine has that battery drain issue also and I never brought it back when in warranty (I know stupid)

Where do you store it? If it's cold the battery will drain quicker.

Does the v3 not have a battery indicator before it goes dead? That was the reason I bought mine. Last thing I want is for it to go dead during a round, you get too reliant on these things.

Does it say this on the manufacturers recommendations? booklet? Most golfers would store in car boot, attached to the golf bag. If this is an issue for this type of storage, i suggest that this is a significant flaw.

Actually lets rephrase; batteries are designed to be used at room temperature. At cold temperatures the electro-chemical process slows down. Ideally warming up the battery should return the battery back to operating normally but eventually all this stress reduces the batteries ability to deliver the correct current.

Write a strongly worded letter to the battery manufactures then if you are unhappy about this.

I suppose what im getting at buster is that if the battery drain issue is due to being stored in a cold area it is possibly not fit for purpose as many individuals store their clubs in the car boot. However, my major issue and one which i experienced over the last 18 months was an inexplicable battery drain problem with the V2 where I would insert a new battery prior to a round, use it for the round and then when i went to play the next week my battery would be dead and i'd have to replace it. I went through 2 devices (in summer conditions so storage in car boot was not too cold) before the third one they gave my did not have this issue. I can only put it down to a faulty batch of V2's from which the 1st and 2nd device came from. Have not had this issue since and it has been a great device for me once this issue has been rectified
