Who knows... maybe she'll end up on BBC now that hubby has left RTE for a new job as BBCs head of Northern Ireland productions.

I think she is returning to her old slot.

I dont think so, she said she would never leave RTE.She is like all the other people in there, too much of a cushy number to leave more like.Wouldnt last in a normal company...

RTE has always had a policy of overpaying its talent, and the obscene amounts it pays to many broadcasters would not be tolerated on any other broadcasting network in the world broadcasting to a comparable audience.

I dont know who Miriam is, but since the only two real talents, Gerry Ryan and Pat Kenny have gone, RTE is left with only the medium talents of Joe Duffy, Ryan Turbidy and a few others and have no great talents left. It's hard to believe that any other employer would be much interested in wanting to employ anyone who is left at RTE, especially at anything like approaching the ridiculous salaries RTE pays.

AFAIR, when her hubby got the job in RTE Miriam moved from being a contractor to being staff. This, IIRC from what she said in an interview, was to avoid a conflict of interest - he couldn't (be seen to) give her company (Mint ?) favours over others.

Staff in RTE are usually paid a good deal less than contractors (like Duffy/Finucane/Tubridy).

The down side of that is that even when they're past their prime, you can't get rid of them.

The other problem is that RTE is ageist - in their instance discriminating against younger people by continuing to use septuagenarians like Gay Byrne and Jimmy Magee instead of giving younger talent a chance.

Well, if they discriminated against older people by using younger people, that would be "ageist" also. :D

I agree completely. And the "talents" left are very medium! :)

Since Miriam doesn't have any appreciable talent, the above doesn't apply to her.

I'd suggest a career as a school dinner lady.

I don't actually know who she is, but to suggest she has no talent seems unlikely to be a balanced view. Unasked for advice is rarely welcome, and it seems unlikely that someone would give up what is likely to be a lucrative career for the option you suggest.

Personally I consider her to be extremely weak as a presenter. That she is currently one of RTE's leading "stars" says much about RTE.

She is weak as a current affairs presenter. She doesn't appear to have any knowledge of the subject under discussion, seems poorly prepared, and in a multiple-guest situation is unable to control the guests.

When things get heated she just looks like a rabbit in the headlights.

Claire Byrne, even with her comparative youth and less experience, is far better.

And Pat Kenny was a serious loss for RTE's CA gravitas.

I really like her, I think she comes across with a lot of warmth and empathy but also she can shift to being sharp, savvy and very well informed depending on who she is interacting with. I wish RTE had more like her.

Just listening to her first interview of her new programme. Pity a sound check wasn't done. Couldn't understand much of what her guest was saying.

She was in La La land. She was giddy with excitement. We're all supposed to be awestruck that an Irish actress has a bit part in some TV show.

Did no one think to provide the two of them with a glass of water. All that clacking dry mouth noise was very off putting. :(
