There is a Macnas parade on at 4.45 in Galway today. Does anybody know if the parade is going ahead? cos if its as windy as it is here in Athenry it could plossibly be cancelled.

The organisers have confirmed they will now just march around Mary Kenny's kitchen due to the adverse weather conditions.

    From their Facebook page....
Folks, in terms of the weather today we have been advised that conditions will clear later in the day and we remain, as ever, pathological optimists here at Macnas so rest assured we are preparing for the parade as normal and if anythng changes we will let you know here. Otherwise grab your wellies and we'll see you on the street. Have you picked a spot yet? ‪#‎macnasparade13‬

They've not started yet but we are at the cathedral and the road is now closed.

Just looking at the Webcams before I head out and Shop Street and High Street seem to be packed with people already.

Can hear firework thingies just now so it must be starting.

Was at the parade earlier and it was truly excellent, a lot of animated floats with street performers and music on board. About 20 floats/giant figures in total, the 25' tall young boy with the blinking eyes and the massive rhino in the wheelchair were the highlights.

Loads of families with kids lining the route, including plenty foreign tourists. We were down on Shop St. opposite Lynch's Castle, the weather played ball, windy but no rain. Much better than the last Macnas parade I saw about 4 years ago during the Arts Festival which was much shorter. The timing was perfect with the early nightfall.

Well done to all concerned. Hopefully will become an annual event on the October bank holiday weekend.

    +1.

Excellent spectacle. An incredible amount of organisation and effort must have gone into designing, constructing and choreographing the parade. Well done to all concerned.

Having seen the wind and downpours this morning, I'm totally amazed at how gutsy it was go to ahead - and how Macnas pulled it off.

Great parade, great feeling around town.

Brilliant parade, never fail to impress!

Bit of an odd question, but would anyone know the name of the song that accompanied the giant rhino in the wheelchair? Sounded a bit like Underworld.....

    Very surreal and unusual stuff.
Fair play to them for putting in the time and energy.
It must take a lot of man hours to construct those high quality floats and organise all those people.

The little kiddies didn't know whether they were interested or terrified which is how I remember the Macnas parade when I was young.

Cheers lads for the spectical and for keeping the buzz alive.
