When people ask your mobile number, do you say its Zero eight blah or Oh eight blah?

I can never in conversation when asked for my number say the word zero when it comes to exchanging numbers, so as the thread title asks on this Saturday night what do you say...is it a zero or an oh? :)

Do you say a Zero or an O when asked for your mobile number? 51 votes

I say Zero for a 0, the way it should be

Zero, because of the confusion between o and 0 leading to problems in a job I once had.

I tell them It's a new phone and I don't know the number yet, and they should give me theirs because I'll definitely call them.

No OP, I don't say Oh, I just say O. The former emphasises surprise and that's certainly not how I speak when giving others my number.

Zero is unambiguous. Hence it saves time that can be better spent on more productive/fun things to do.

This ends the discussion for me.

How exactly, when asked your number, does saying O make things more ambiguous?

What's wrong with saying an Oh?

I should imagine this would be stating the bleedin' obvious, but maybe because it can be confused with the letter O (have you heard of the letter O?) in situations that require letters and numbers

Your poll has Oh for "O" as opposed to 0.

Have a look at the question posed by the OP. In what situation would the passing of mobile phone numbers require the letter O?

You do realise the o comes from shortening it from zero and not because they look the same?

"Oh-eight-seven" rolls off the tongue easier than "zero-eight-seven" :D

    zero eight seven...

some german guy went on about irish people and "oh's" for about 3 minutes once, when I was giving someone my number in his presence. that was the last time i ever wanted to be subjected to that.
