Uniroyal tyres vs Goodyear / Michelin tyres

I need to get two new front tyres on my A4 diesel,

I currently have uniroyal rainsports 2 on the front and find the grip very good.

The uniroyals are working out at roughly €100 per tyre, however I could purchase goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 2 or michelin pilot sport 3 for €30 more per tyre.

I'm just wondering if I go for the Goodyear or Michelin tyres will I find better wet grip etc. ? As I find the uniroyals grip very good.

I'm just really looking for some advise on which tyre would be the best to purchase.

    Thanks

    Bean.

I've no experience of Uniroyals but the would need to be exceptional to be better than F1's or even PS'3 i've been using Goodyear F1's for the last 10 years, the current Asymmetric 2's are the best tyre i've ever driven on, currently have them in 225/40/18 and the have last around 14/15k which i stil lcan't get over, my prevous best from that size was 11/12k - all on 200bhp + heavy 4wd cars.

Spend the extra few quid on the F1's you won't be disappointed . What size are your tyres and where are you shopping around for prices ?

Cheers tossy, think I'll spend the extra few quid and go for the F1's.

Tyres are 225 45 R17, just mostly looking at different websites gauging prices!!

Try Discount tyres in blanch for a price, that's where i've been buying tyres for the last few years. They have been beating camskill for pricing.

    I'd second this. Can't beat the F1's

Not exactly an answer to your question but I happened to try Uniroyal Rain Experts in snow and the grip was amazing for a summer tyre. I ended towing a Mercedess Sprinter that also had nearly new tyres on (Didn't look for make but it was nearly new van) but had no load in it and refused to move.

Also, hard to beat on wet.

Worth taking in to account with the winter coming. I just got a pair in the front of my own car and with nearly new chinese dich finders at the rear the car ended being a little tail happy in a corner earlier tonight.

goodyear f1 better grip, michelin pilots better lasting, both great tyres though

Goodyear Eagle F1's or just drive your car into a wall and forget about ever driving again!

Michelin and Goodyears are great for lasting and offer tonnes of grip. Nice and quiet too. Great tyres

Uniroyals are epic in the rain but don't last as long. I'd be going for Uniroyals over the winter months if I were you

I had eagle F1's for about 40k miles. Even the ultra grip winters I had for a while lasted. Driven wheels too ;)

Well you're obviously wrong on both counts!

EDIT: ask LM about his experience as a passenger ;)

I recently had 225/45/17 F1 assymetric 2 for 130 euro each from discounttyres in blanch which was same as online prices.

They are good tyres for sure but I wouldn't pay %30 more if you are happy with uniroyals' performance

I'd be quietly confident that after a few thousand miles of driving on F1's he's have no regrets about paying the premium.

    I have 4 goodyear F1's on my car in 225 45 R17. Best tire i ever bought.
Went to dublin from cork in a monsoon and it was glued to the road

I haven't used all those but Uniroyals are good tyres. I've had them on all my cars and not a bother.

Uniroyal rainsports are great tyres. They are made by Continental and are glued to the road wet or dry.

Uniroyal are very good tyres but are what I would consider a "second tier" tyre brand comparable to the likes of Hankook whereas Michelin and Goodyear are premium brand tyres. The Uniroyal brand is owned by Continental (another of the five premium brands, the other two being Bridgestone and Pirelli) so you can be sure that they have good expertise behind them but you can be equally sure that they won't be quite as good as the Continental branded tyres, the parent company will make sure of that.

So the Goodyear and Michelin tyres will be more expensive than the likes of a Uniroyal but will also perform better. The differences in performance will not be apparent to most road users under normal driving conditions so the Uniroyals are fine for the majority of motorists. Whether or not the PS3/F1 is worth the extra cost comes down to the individual motorist really.

I've had Rainsport 2 for a few years now and love the confidence they give in the wet. Cornering ability is great.

However, 130 for F1s in that size seems a great price and I'd probably go for it.

I found the uniroyal's contributed a bit too much body roll. The sidewalls are very very soft.

Yeah, Uniroyals needs some extra pressure.
