Scrapped/old airline seats.

This is a bit left field. I am looking to put airline seats in my sitting room say a row of three or two.

I have done a bit of searching online but have drawn a blank.

Does anybody know anywhere in the Ireland where I could buy them and how much roughly they would cost?

    Thanks

A quick google gave me this http://www.aeroaid.com/

    Thanks a lot guys.

I was looking to focus more on trying to get them in Ireland.

The cost of customs, delivery etc are precluding ebay and other online resources.

One of the ebay sellers is in Cardiff. £99 for a row of three, quick spin on the ferry to pick them up.

Or if you fancy something a little more comfortable:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aircraft-Business-Class-Seat-/261312520655

Shipping will be a killer though.

I have emailed Aeroaid with a query to see will they deal with the public.

The ones in Cardiff look good and are relatively cheap in my opinion. If I could find something similar in Ireland I would be happy.

We have some in Malta Aviation Museum from a BAC 1-11 I dunno if the lads will part with them but they are sitting unused in the dc3.

    Email them and see :)

Let us know how you get on, we might all want some!!

European Aviation in Bournemouth had a hangar full of seats aswell when I worked there but you'd have the same problem in getting them to Ireland. You
    could try email them aswell

If a few people want them, why not club together to get them from the Cardiff crowd and split the cost of a man with van.

For the avoidance of doubt, I have no connection with the seller in Cardiff, nor do I own a van :D

    Count me in on that

I heard a few people saying in the past that there is a pub in Longford with aircraft seats! Anybody hear if this before?

Why do I have mental images of robclay26 with a set of spanners and a van with the engine running waiting outside a pub? :D

I wonder if there is enough interest could we get them couriered to Ireland from Cardiff- Economies of scale etc. Might be cheaper than a ferry, van hire etc. I will make contact with the ebay seller in Cardiff to see if he would be willing to sell a bulk order to Ireland and will discuss shipping. etc.

Airlines often change out older seat types as they upgrade to modern inflight entertainment or because the cabins are getting refitted or because the manufacturer doesn't support the model anymore. In a lot of cases, lads bought them to fit into the back of vans but insurance companies won't allow it now, ie, the use of non-automotive seats in a vehicle. Flying clubs and schools often have them as spare clubhouse seating, because they usually have connections to airlines anyway. Some maintenance organisations will not allow them to be sold to the public because of the insurance risk so they are usually sold for scrap.

    regards

Interesting to see Kevin McClouds Supersized Salvage on Ch4 last night, converting an Airbus A320 to just about anything.

Among other very varied things, he made some seats in to rocking chairs, others in to lamps.

Gave a good idea of the scale of how much stuff is in it.
eg 50 miles of wiring etc

Scrap value was put at £25000

Instead of changing the car I'm going to buy an A320 and put it in my back garden. Definitely an interesting conversation piece!

Re that C4 show and the planes seats

They made Bags out of the seat covers with the seat belt acting as a sling
Lamp shades out of the supports.
Coat hangers from parts of arm rests
A Failed attempt at a rickshaw
    rocking chair
They basically tore the seats apart
    Can't remember the rest

Well worth a watch, they made a few bob, The aviation aspect of the scrap seems to add value to it.

Aviation related or not... That lamp is as ugly as sin and no way I'd give it the house room. Wouldn't be a fan of airline seats in the living room but each to their own :p

It wasn't a suggestion. Any attempt to sell items here and you'll find your stay short lived.

Lord Lucan, born Richard Bingham on December 18, 1934 in England. He assumed his father's earldom upon his death in 1964. Lucan split with his wife in 1973 and approximately a year later would become the suspect in the murder of his children's nanny and the assault on his wife. Since the investigation, Lucan has never been seen again.

And you called yourself after this man. nice?

happyface1......I appreciate your intent of 'helping sum one" However boards.ie is not a selling website. Use PM or adverts,ie/donedeal.ie. for selling your wares. You signed up to these T&C's with your membership.

Secondly problems with mod decision are to be resolved via PM. Insulting a mod isn't a way to make you mark on the Boards.ie community.
