It's hard work, fun work if you like outdoors and machines, there are very few jobs going, the industry is really suffering from too many golf courses and the recession. Also now with internships there are even less paying jobs. There are so many internships advertised but I can't find one job in this country even just for the summer.
I worked at it for 15 years, I did one year full time in horticulture studying and then 2 years during the winter 6 weeks a winter, 12 over the 2 winters while working the rest of the time.
The money really is not good until you are a manager or at least an assistant manager of a course. They can make from 30 to 100k a year. There are seasonal jobs in Europe and more jobs in the UK then here for full time roles.
It's not like a doctor or something were you have to have certain qualifications to be called a greenkeeper. But you more so do something related to it study wise, plus you can do things like get certified to use a tractor mounted sprayer, a chainsaw, learn some supervisory management skills. All these types of things would be handy.
