Sawdust and lime premixed in small bags.
Hoping to get a lorry load of sawdust this year and mix my own.

    White Rhino

Were part of a trial last year for another lime based agrical type product but no comparison.

Gave up sawdust as it tends to heat and cause problems

why do ye use sawdust or peat as some round me use would lime on its own be no good

Use the white Rhino lime too.

The actisan is very expensive per bag. I used it but can't say I found much difference between the cheaper white Rhino and the actisan.

Lime on its own can cause cracked teats.

Hydrated lime, it doesn't cause any problems in the slatted tanks. Saw dust on it's own can contribute to mastitis, ordinary lime can go hard in the tanks. Anybody ever use gypsum?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

We add a conditioner to the teat spray

I heard to watch out at agitation time if using gypsum, seemingly some real toxic gasses can be released, much more potent than slurry on its own, I use just the hydrated lime.

We use premixed chopped straw and antibacterial from kehoe farming in South Wexford.
Been using it for two years and has cut mastitis levels a lot post calving. Better than straight agrical that's for sure.

    Td
I tried this and found the sawdust too moist to mix with lime. No bother if doing daily but no way you could do a load at a time

Switched totally to White rhino last year. Stopped sawdust completely. We were always scared of lime only for some reason, no regrets about changing.

Were to singe cows udders in the am but they'll be wet now, spilling here.

Do you singe them yourself, why does it matter if they're wet.

Works much better and quicker when dry

do you use one of them ones on the gas with the big lance? Would you do it often?

A splash of Udder Comfort into the teat spray should sort that, if you're milking of course

cows that leak milk are most prone here to sore teats .. lime and milk dont mix well... first year to singe cows last year ... great job but will only do last two rows over a couple of days this year cos the smell of the hair drove those waiting to be done absolutely bananas.. mental ...

White Rhino only here for donkey's years. Never had much of an issue with sore teats. . Remember I tried a couple of bags of agrical once I found it wouldn't go half as far and the cows tended to eat it off the cubicles... :O
