PC restarting immediately after shutdown

I started having this problem after installing my new cooler (Hyper 212 evo) and second graphics card for SLI. Everything seems to be running fine, SLI is working nicely. When I power down (with shutdown), it shuts down, the fans stop, and then a moment later I hear the usual startup 'beep' and it powers back up again. After a couple of rounds of that I just turned off the power from the switch on the power supply.

Any ideas? I checked the motherboard connections to the pins from the case front panel (power button, usb, etc) and they seem solid.

Also, after I killed the power with the power supply switch, I flipped it back on and the pc didn't spontaneously start up again. Seems like that rules out any issues with the case power switch, right?

What OS are you running? AFAIK, Windows 7 update can convert soft shutdowns into restarts, where a restart is needed to complete the update, as can installing Windows itself. Could be an incomplete install, or duff driver that Windows doesn't like. Could be worth hunting down current versions of all the necessary drivers and installing them manually.

I had something similar recently where Windows 7 SP1 was repeatedly failing to install due to driver conflicts leading to lots of unnecessary restarts. I ended up re-installing Windows from scratch, then SP1, then all the other Windows updates, then the hardware drivers and then Windows update again. System seems much more stable as a result.

I'm running Windows 7, but I haven't installed any updates in the last few days. I have automatic updating disabled (notify but let me choose when to install).

I did have to make a couple of adjustments after installing the second graphics card. I updated my nvidia drivers to 331.58 (Oct 21 WHQL release). Then I removed VirtuMVP (it was blocking nvidia control panel). After that I was able to enable SLI and verify it was working in various games.

The only other thing I can think of is that I re-arranged some of the temperature sensors for my fan control. I taped one sensor to the CPU heatsink pipes, one to a motherboard heatsink, and one to the back side of the motherboard (the back side of the cpu mount). The other sensors didn't get moved (one on the graphics card and one on my hard drive).

I had the same problem with my laptop few months ago, The laptop was running Windows 7. When I wanted to shut it down, It would shut down and then go back on. The only way I fixed my issue was by reinstalling my Windows.

Could be worth looking at the event log to see if there is any info why the restarts are happening.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I browsed around in the BIOS settings just now and saw that "wake on LAN" was enabled. I disabled that and that seemed to do it. Not sure how that was causing the problem as I don't have anything connected to the ethernet port (wifi only, and that's not on the motherboard).
