there is a thermostat on the element itself. Comes set from factory usually around 70 degrees so unless someone tampered with it that should be grand.

Another thing is the build up of limescale or something on the element. Do you live in hard water area or are you off the mains?

Where do you test the temp of the water after the hour you mention in the first post?

Have you put your hand on the cylinder or the outgoing pipes after an hour? You'll tell pretty quickly if the tank is lukewarm or not....

    +1

Just going by experience if the water in the tank is cold to begin with then 3kw for an hour, even if everything is in order won't cut it anyway. Thats probably why people do have 5kw immersions with a 3kw side for 'sink' and an extra 2kw switched on at the same time for 'bath' to make things quicker.

Not necessarily, but I'd be putting my hand on the tank after an hour and seeing how hot it is. If it's piping hot at the tank and your missus is still getting lukewarm water, you have a problem down the line. If the cylinder is lukewarm, it might need a bit more time. Or the thermostat in the immersion itself might be set too low.

Dont know how helpful this is or accurate but doing a bit of experimenting, if the initial temp of the water in the tank is 1o degrees then heating a 200 litre tank to 45 degrees (suitable for a bath??) will take 3hr or a 250l tank nearly 4.

If the starting temp of the water is 20 degrees then heating water to 45 in 200 litre tank is 2 hr 20 min and 250 tank is nearly 3hr

    ROUGH calculations

    .......thats with your 3kw's
