Low flying aircraft over Longford

Ive noticed alot of low flying aircraft flying over the house the last couple of nights. Ive lived here 25 years and have never seen this before. They are flying North->South over South Longford and over Lough Ree.

They seem to be relatively small from the look of them, not very well up on planes though so no idea what kind they are! There have been four or five in the past couple of hours alone.

Any ideas as to why or what these are? They dont bother me, I just find it odd and i'm curious!

Can you tell if they're all the same type of aircraft? there's a chap up near us from Tarmonbarry who circles round & round but thats usually during the day.

I thought it was the same aircraft. Noticed around 7pm that it flew over the house. Again around 7.30pm coming back and last time about 23.10pm. Always on the same flight path. Very strange as its too dark for mapping/photos. Just to note location is Roscommon side of athlone.

Yep, same story here. I've only noticed it going south though.

If you could record them & upload them I'm sure some of the experts on here would recognize them maybe just by their sound & probably solve the mystery of what there up to.

No they have an islander as well for covert ops.

Just for info, one of the OSI aircraft is fitted with a LIDAR mapping system. Just needs a clear view of the ground. The atc lad above might be able to see if there was a flight plan put in for the survey aircraft. Obviously not for the Defender though:D

I heard that when there is heavy snow, the garda helicopter can be deployed and quickly pinpoint houses / factories with no snow on top due to it being melted from the generated by the grow house within.

Is this true? Or did I dream it?

Garda Aircraft movements cannot be discussed here due to reasons of OPSEC.

    And no its not true.
