    Hi folks,

trying to get my head around the Reg plates on Imported vehicles..

I understand after 2011 Dub got 120000+ and cork got 40000+ but haven't a clue about other county's.

also anyone have any idea what numbers were given to imports pre 2011?

Before 2011 it just kept adding on top of cars that were Irish.

    e.g. 00D109111 or 08D99008

It makes it easier to spot a import alright.

Pre 2011, they just went with the next number i.e. last car registered in dublin in 2005 was, lets say was 05 D 78367, and in 07 someone was the first to import a 05 car then its reg would be 05 D 78368.

As for the new system, I would like to know where they picked the start number, I believe 2011 & 2012 import cars do not not have silly numbers

They decided on 120000 as there has never been a year where more than 120,000 cars were registered in Dublin.

2000 was the biggest year, at least 110,000 cars registered in Dublin for that year alone.

Same reason behind the numbers for Galway, Cork, etc

My 2011 car is a UK import and just got the next number in sequence for that year. Pre 2011 imports get the crazy high numbers.
