Could anyone provide me with an approx cost of repairing or replacing a rusted sill? My car failed the NCT because of 'primary structure corrosion' on 'nearside rear' and I'm trying to weigh up whether to bother fixing it.

Unless its extremely bad, a repair will be cheaper than replacement, I got two sills repaired and painted on a 2002 fiesta plus another small repair on rear chassis leg all for 400 euro . There were holes in the sill that you could get your hand into!

It was a small one man country garage and while the work was good, the finish was not top notch, not that it bothered me as it was perfectly acceptable for the money and the type of car

It is a Toyota MR2, 1992. The sill is not that bad actually, just a section about a foot long near the wheel arch that is corroding from the inside.

Neighbour has one with rusty sills also! Started with a small hole to the rear of the door and has slowly got worse, same both sides so it must be from some blocked drains so I'd see what the cause is whilst you're at it.

There is no other rust anywhere on the car...just this small section on the sill, which is why I'm keen to get it sorted so I can start sealing underneath.
