It's that time of the year again for us to vote on the Rock/Metal Gig of the Year for 2013.

    Previous winners were :-

2010 Kiss @ The O2 (Runner up was Porcupine Tree @ Tripod)

2011 Rush @ The O2 (Runner up was QOTSA @ The Olympia)

2012 Rammstein @ The O2 (Runner up was Anthrax @ The Academy)

If you've been to a totally awesome gig put it in here, all i need is band and venue.

On or around December 20th, The Top 10 nominations will be put into a poll and we'll vote on Best Rock/Metal gig of 2013 (Only 1 vote per person)

    Rules

Gig MUST be on Irish Soil in 2013
You can nominate as many gigs as you want

PLEASE TRY AND LIMIT YOUR CHOICES TO TRULY MEMORABLE GIGS, NOT JUST ANY OLD GIGS YOU HAVE BEEN TOO

Been to loads myself so far, with a few to come.

    I've 3 nominations though

    Hatebreed @ Whelans

Just an awesome night in a tiny venue, band were on fire

    Slayer @ The Academy

Seeing the mighty Slayer in The Academy was just something else, they was amazing

    Dropkicks @Vicar Street
A whole weekend of fun, 2 different sets, just a great fun time

Best for me so far was just the other night.

    Queensryche at The Button Factory.

Few other gigs to come though.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Slayer at the Academy for me,massive band in a tiny venue equals all kinds of awesome.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,658 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Roger Waters. The production on it just puts every other gig to shame. Amd to have amazing surround sound quality in a stadium was something else.

    Lordi at the button factory

    Red Fang at Whelans.

Slayer @ The Academy was unreal so that gets my vote.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,451 ✭✭✭blastman

I'd also nominate Slayer @ The Academy, epic stuff allbeit tinged with sadness and disappointment.

Frank Turner And The Sleeping Souls at The Academy was uplifting, fun and I thoroughly recommend seeing him/them live at some point (he also did a great solo spot supporting the Dropkicks in Vicar St)

Hasn't happened yet, but I'll be disappointed if I feel I can't nominate Sabbath after the Belfast gig.

My first vote has to be (literally, cannot type anything else!) is

    Roger Waters @ The Aviva

and a very very close second would have to be:

    Slayer @ The Academy

Slayer at the Academy gets a vote from me too.
Suffocation & Cephalic Carnage in the Pint.
Cattle Decapitation in the Pint as well.

Going to Shining in December, so I'm hoping I'll be able to add that, but I'll just have to wait and see.

    Rotten Sound in The Pint.

Is it too early to nominate Death next month :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,528 ✭✭✭dcr22B

Slayer @ The Academy for me. Standing less than a few metres away from Gary Holt was just epic!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,009 ✭✭✭skimpydoo

Either Queensryche last weekend or Slash last March, I even got his autograph after the gig.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,902 ✭✭✭RayCon

I'll go with Queensryche only because Rush (Berlin) and Steven Wilson (Bristol) dont count.

Obviously Steven Wilson blew everything else away.;)

Aye, the gig in Glasgow would be my nomination by a distance if it counted!

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I have to agree it was an immense gig. Some of Joel antic's were top class. Also the Black Spiders in support were class too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,346 ✭✭✭King George VI

I take back my vote for Slayer and give it to Airbourne tonight. Those boys know how to pump up the crowd.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,056 Mod ✭✭✭✭Say Your Number

Yeah, splahing the crowd with beer and messing around on the balcony, they'll never shake the AC/DC rip off tag but they are so good at it, I honestly couldn't give a f*ck what any one says, long may they continue.

You can nominate however many ya want, so long as you deem them excellent/stand out gigs. It's when ya vote that you only get 1 vote

Slayer @ the Academy. Small venues are simply unreal and you could sense the band's appreciation of the occasion.

Same vibe as with Faith No More a few years ago in the Olympia, simply unbelievable.

Airbourne for me as well but a mention has to go to Charlie Sheen and his intro at the Slash gig. He's a mad thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,798 ✭✭✭✭DrumSteve

    Slayer at the Academy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 900 ✭✭✭Joe_Dull

Scar Symmetry @ The Pint for me. Immensely energetic gig.

Adding Sigur Ros @ the O2 to my previous nomination, fantastic performance and an excellently delivered show.

    +1 for Sigur Ros @ the O2.

I think a part of me has permanently mellowed after experiencing that show.

    Bruce Springsteen - Thomand Park

    QOTSA -17th Nov

    Stereophonics - 12th Nov

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Frank Grimes

Already mentioned but I'll go with:

    Slayer - The Academy
    Cattle Decapitation - The Pint

Not mentioned (I think), and given the low turnout on the night it probably won't be either:

Dragged Into Sunlight - The Pint.

I didn't know much about them prior to the show but was I really impressed by the music and the show they put on, I thought the support acts were great too.

QOTSA were f***ing epic last night!

    Roger Waters in the Aviva

Doubt it will get another mention, but I thought The Darkness were great last night and put on a proper show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,345 ✭✭✭Somnus

Good year for gigs but the two stand outs for me were:

    Slayer at the Academy
    Sigur Rós at the O2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭smackbunnybaby

    Coheed and Cambria in Academy

    Also, I can't believe it's a year since Anthrax...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,175 ✭✭✭StaticAge11

Top picks for me this year have been

Queens Of The Stone Age in the O2
    Biffy Clyro in the O2

Biffy in the O2 were indeed class.

Death in the Academy was also one of the best metal gigs I've ever seen!

Mastodon in the Academy? I thought that was pretty unreal
