M50 New road markings

Just a word of caution to anybody heading north on M50 towards N32/Malahide. Looks like Stevie Wonder has been out with his white paint putting new lines on the road.
The two right lanes used to head towards Malahide/N32, but now only the extreme R/H lane leads to N32. this splits into 2 lanes near end of motorway, but beware as L/H lane is not for straight on, as this heads for flyover for M1 Southbound. Seems Stevie ran out of paint at this stage, as there's no writing on road to show where each lane leads.
Saw some interesting swerves & manouvers here today, and it can only get better tomorrow.
    Well done NTR.

Class! So anyone joining at the Ballymun junction and heading for the N32 has to traverse all lanes to the extreme rightmost, just as everyone else is diving left to get into lane for the M1. Fun, fun, fun...

I think traffic management/road layout in Ireland is done by someone looking at a photo album of junctions. Sometimes you wonder if they've ever driven a car on the roads.

I drove it last night while they were marking it, got a fright as there was no warning at all that all lanes were closed except the extreme right, also that the slip road was closed so everyone had to go up as if going towards malahide and then take a left. I hadn't ever been that way so didn't even know I could get on the M1 that way. Should have at least had diversion signs or warnings.

If you can't make it over into the right hand lane and visa versa in that distance you shouldn't be on the road period.

It's the end of the year. Have to spend that unused cash somehow or they won't get the same next year.

Expect them out again soon "fixing" the mess they've created.

I'm assuming you know the junction/interchange in question right?
It's a mess as it was and by the sounds of it it's just gotten worse. Not helped by most people's inability to indicate or maneuver in good time - ie: not at the last second!

I do be over that way from time to time (latest was earlier last week) so I'm morbidly curious as to how they've managed to mess it up some more.

Plenty of potholes around that they can fill in instead of painting stupid lines.

I agree but that would make sense and take effort. Plus it's getting dark, wet and cold out. The lads can't be propping up shovels in those conditions!

Drive for a living pass there 4 times a day. Like I said if you cant get over into the right lane you shouldn't be on the road. Sometimes I think people just like to complain tbh.

The new layout is much better. I'd guess 80% of the traffic that reaches that junction from the M50 is heading north onto the M1. Only the auxiliary lane used to go onto the M1. Now the first driving lane does too. The second driving lane is for the M1 southbound and the far right lane is for Malahide/N32.

The lanes now represent the volume of traffic much better than before. They did a similar change on the M1 southbound approaching the M50 and it made a big difference. Much fewer cars pulling in at the last second because there is more room.

The only issue I saw with it was they didn't have the overhead signs ready so just spray-painted over them so you had no idea what lane was going where. Once the job is complete though it will be much better.

Pedant mode: it's the M50, not the M1. The M50 starts at the south entrance to DPT and runs north though the tunnel, up to the m1/n32 junction and then around the old M50.

You will still have the people at the last minute going from the rightmost lane to the leftmost lane at the last minute..i think its 5 lanes across at that stage.... That junction is crazy at best of times with dangerous manouvres.

As I said before, put a HUGE keep left sign every 100m or so on the M50, and fine everyone to the right of an empty lane, unless hey have to be there. :D

I agree, but it's right at that section where you seem to see all the people who shouldn't be on the road...
