Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on disenfectant prior to housing cattle in slatted sheds. Had ringworm there over the last few years. Someone told me to use lime. Any help appreciated . And also what wormer to use. Fluke & worm, was thinking of Closamectin or has anyone other ideas and would you do them on the day they go in or would you leave for a week or so. Thanks

id dose well in advance or 5-6 weeks after housing. stick a bit of holly in the shed for ringworm.

    Don't worry about the ringworm!

Lots of people don't bother cleaning sheds... We prefer to clean down and do the day the shed is emptied while the dung is still wet with a 4inch hose off of the slurry tanker. Mighty job. Barriers etc get power hosed afterwards.

Treat for Fluke & worm 4-6 weeks after housing, Ibermack Super injection I think is what we used last autum after housing, tried the closamectin pour-on one year and found it poor enough, and dear...
Our vet insists that only wooden partitions/troughs hold ringworm to reinfect stock... We've had great success with iodine spray on ringworm, such that that is all id recommend..
How much holly would you need ??

I dosed all weanlings a week ago. They will all be done again before Christmas and the out wintered ones will be done around end of fen or march

the outwintered ones here are usually far healthier. end of feb would be loads. i know regular dosing is important but is 3-4 weeks not a bit over the top.

Depends on the year/Land /Dose used
Wet land or Wet year then dose often
"Cheap white Drench" types -- use often

Jersey, if you dosing as often as that is there a chance you may be building up a resistance to whatever product you are using or do you change from time to time? Is there need to dose that often as the ivermectin based products have a residual effect

Hilltopman, if being housed i think trodax and deldrax kill all stages of fluke. Could they not be used at or shoirtly after housing. Not 'meant' to use on dairy stock. Several wormers kill all stages of worms and would imagine could be used at same time as above

We do ours for fluke twice, first time sometime in November and second dose around end of Jan/early feb. Usually use endafluke, same drug as fasinex and about 1/3 the price, these are on kale so get an iodine+selenium bolus as well. For worms either a white dose or ivermectin in Nov and about a month after they go to grass, whenever the kale is gone.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

awful dirty ground here full of fluke and worms. After years of being neglected. We did it one year where did it maybe three times in tge summer and at houseing. They didnt do good at all. Had a heifer that was half dead took me 3 doses to get rid of the fluke and worms that she had in her
