I live in Tallaght, Dublin 24.

What's the easiest way to reach Cork city? Bus or Rail?

    Any particular time or day?

    Price a concern?

Luas, and then train might be easy option

Either train from Heuston, or Aircoach from Westmoreland Street, or GoBe from Busaras.

    Times/fares at:
    www.irishrail.ie
    www.aircoach.ie
    www.gobe.ie

Train is cheapest when booked as far in advance as possible.

Stop spouting nonsense! The cheapest return rail fare booked in advance is now €29.98 excluding the debit/credit card charge.

Aircoach booked online on the day before travel by 5pm costs €18 return.

GoBÉ booked online an hour and a half before travel costs €22 return.

OP, I'd advise Luas from Tallaght to BusÁras and from there GoBÉ coach to Cork. GoBE have a guaranteed toilet on board which makes the extra €4 over Aircoach (that can't guarantee toilets) well with it IMO.

If you read the post correctly the comment was meant if OP was using the train, its cheapest booked in advance and not comparing different modes of transport.

out of interest, do these buses stop just outside the M50 circle? i.e liffey valley etc or do you have to go into town to take them?

Some routes do, but the Cork routes don't.

There's a lot of knowledge on this board that can answer your question, but "best" means different things to different folk (fastest/cheapest/most comfortable etc.) so the more detail the better.

One advantage of taking the bus option is that if you need to get back to Dublin the same night, you can take either the Aircoach and Gobe services throughout the night from Cork to Dublin.

But if you decide to do that, make sure, when booking your ticket online, if you buy a return ticket, that you select the correct time and date for your return journey, for example if you were to opt for the aircoach bus at 1am, which leaves on the quays outside the Metropole Hotel, back to Dublin.

A good few people took the aircoach bus at 1am back to Dublin after the ZZ Top gig in July.
