Can't find any after a quick Google search but surely there are others apart from this one? Thanks in advance for any pointers. :)

The only two that come to mind are Birdforum (there's an Ireland section) and Irish Bird Network, but both are more for 'birding' than for general discussions, and neither is very busy either - this forum has more daily users and more generalised topics of discussion than either of them.

The guys in the hunting forum might have something else to add? Though whatever it would be would likely be birds/wildlife from a hunting perspective obviously

It seems strange that there appears to be so little chatter given all the various conservation issues/reintroduction programmes etc.etc. Even on this forum the number of posters is small and largely the same few regulars.

Yeah I know what you mean - although I'd say there's a good few lurkers on this forum, but for whatever reason they don't post too much! Twitter and Facebook have plenty of people interested in topical discussions about wildlife, but Twitter has the obvious drawback of only being able to communicate in 140 characters per tweet, and Facebook can be hit or miss in terms of how many people interact with a group/thread and if it's topical you can get some idiots too (like you'd see in After Hours here).

I think this forum is the best bet when it comes to wildlife discussions for Ireland, but to increase the amount of topics discussed and people who interact with it it's always good to a) start threads yourself with anything that's on your mind, lay out your viewpoints clearly etc., and b) get anyone else you know who might be interested to either sign up or to take more of an active part.

I'm sure if a lot of the people here were to tweet or put on facebook that there's a discussion about X or Y and provide a link, it'd draw more people in! Given the amount of people who 'like' the various wildlife groups on facebook there's definitely plenty of people who'd be interested. Posting to the Birdwatch Ireland, Irish Wildlife Trust, Irish Wildlife facebook pages that there's a discussion going on here about X, Y or Z might get more people to see it, and therefore more people posting here too.

Obviously it's the kind of thing that we all need to try and play a part in spreading the word for it to expand like that though *hint hint at everyone who reads this* :p
