Competition starts today with Martyn Irvine and Caroline Ryan in their respective points races, although there's a pre-qualifier first with 4 to be eliminated before this evening's final in the mens event

Both will also be doing their respective Omniums over Saturday and Sunday

Also in the team is Eoin Mullen racing the sprint tomorrow and kierin on Sunday

Doesn't look like there's live TV coverage other than on Youtube (where coverage starts at 6pm today)

Women's points race currently on - alas Caroline Ryan failed to get through the qualifiers earlier. Irvine will be up next (probably another 20 mins or so)

In this day and age why do people not make content viewable on mobile devices? What possible reason could there be?

I was watching on the phone earlier

Irvine pulled out just after half way - I guess his second hard race of the day was taking its toll as he's had a cold this week - good news is he only has 3 races tomorrow, with the dreaded devil to finish it off ...

Are there any plans to build an indoor track in Ireland?

Great performance by Martyn in the points race

Mens Omnium elimination race starting now

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,393 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

4th in his most feared event - that must be just about his best ever performance in the elimination race

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,393 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

By my reckoning that moves him up to 4th place, with his normally stronger 2nd day to come ...

very impressive display in the points, very measured really played to his strengths and didn't chase the gallops when the grupo was compacto - you can see the mans experience showing through now

lol there's no audio and we get that this message " This video previously contained a copyrighted audio track. Due to a claim by a copyright holder, the audio track has been muted."

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,393 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

They had given the Swiss guy 1 point for the Flying lap rather than 11, which puts him behind Irvine who's actually in 3rd place on 19 points behind Manakov (Rus) (9 pts) and Veldt (NL) (14 points). It's pretty close behind him, but he has strong Pursuit and Scratch races to come tomorrow

    Positions after day 1
    Womens Omnium
    Mens Omnium

Its the background music in the stadium, thought the link broke yesterday as I was in work. Can't imagine who is listening that closely that they would mute a live stream but obviously have little to do unless its an auto thing from youtube.

ye its very petty to have someone watching and reporting copyright violations for music, must be google as they own youtube and have very powerful auto recognition tools

    Today's coverage starts at 1pm 2.30pm here

Meanwhile the men's omnium pursuit is on now with riders going off in reverse order

3rd in the IP moves Martyn to within a point of 2nd placed Dutchman Veldt. Manakov looks a strong favourite having won the IP and has a lead of 11 points with the scratch race and kilo to go

Beasty, thanks for the updates. I'm not sure where you get the info. But this is great stuff so far for Irvine.

He had a couple of hairy moments when he got caught on the inside, but generally was great tactically, either leading out or giving himself the room to move up on the outside. It seems to me that being on the inside 3 or 4 riders from the front is just about the worst place to be in this event while there are significant numbers left in and that's how he's been caught out in the past.

Scratch race is on now ...

... but there's no live coverage, so it's a matter of waiting...

    ... and waiting...

Awaiting full results but Manakov took the scratch with Veldt finishing ahead of Irvine. Looks like the Russian and Dutchman have the Gold and Silver sewn up (Veldt is slightly faster than Martyn in the kilo)

    Is eoin mullen racing?
He was in the Kierin qualifiers this morning but failed to make the SF

Caroline Ryan finished 5th in the pursuit and lies in 10th place after 4 events in the Omnium

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,393 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

Position going into the TT is that Manakov leads on 11 points and is pretty much guaranteed Gold. Veldt is 2nd on 24 points with Martyn in 3rd with 28 - it's a tall order to make that up as Veldt is a bit faster than Irvine normally in this event. Then there's a 7 point gap to the Danish and Swiss guys, and if Martyn rides to form he should be able to maintain his position

Mens Omnium TT has just started

I have a nasty feeling that Harrison has sneaked the bronze by 1 point with Martyn ahead of the Belgian on total time on the timed events

I am delighted to admit I am clearly wrong ....

...misread Harrison's score - he was a point behind Martyn
