I cant wait to see Mike Perez fighting on Novemeber 2nd on sky sports chief support to the ggg vs stevens bout. Its mikes big chance to shine on the biggest stage of em all against a legit contender.I found this good article in relation to mike on a boxing forum which i feel other fans of the rebel will enjoy

"Perez is training hard for this, has been training pretty steadily even when out of action.

Its a bizarre situation though, some rich guy in Ireland has a mangement contract with him, has him in this state of the art sports complex, pays big money to bring in the top sparring partners and they all go away raving about how good Mike is.

Tony Thompson has sparred Mike on 2 occasions and was KO'd the first time and comprehensively schooled the second time.

Boystov, Dimitrenko, Helenius, Wilder, Chambers, Glazkov, Takam, Charr, Price, Wach, Cunningham, Kevin Johnson, Ustinov, Pulev and Hamer have all been in Cork for sparring. And thats coming to Mikes place for sparring, not the other way around. His "handler" has alot of money by all accounts.

Its great for experience sure, but hes sending people away not wanting to fight him.

His inactivity is down to lack of motivation. He just doesn't like tune up fights that pay very little. He does not want to fight anyone that will not be seen as a scalp. The better the opponent then the better the training camp.

He was tantalisingly close to securing a fight with Tyson Fury 18 months back but the word is out there that hes just not seen as being worth the risk. He brings nothing to the table.

And hes not motivated enough to be knocking out bum after bum in order to force his way in so its catch 22.

1000% expect him to beat Abdusalamov purely because he sees it as a challenge and the opportunity to beat a so called "name".

    Great stuff.

Good stage for him. No nothing about his opponent except nor if his opponent's record is padded.

Being based here hasn't done him any favours career wise. Needs a win and an impressive performance here.

Id love to see him kick on. he has got some real skills for a modern heavyweight in fairness.

Looking at his boxrec profile he needs to be sub 230lbs here to be in real shape.

And deontay wilder came to cork to spar him.....are u sure about that?

positive mate wilder said on some boxingsite he destroyed perez in sparring and when this was said to mike perez he said hed fight him anytime anyday,a fit and hungry perez will take serious stopping, jameel mccline believes hes the only heavy who could give the robot a run for his money

The robot eh? lol lets not get overexcited.

Anyway we'll see how things pan out against Abdusalamov. Perez's size may limit him against the bigger guys in the division, notably the aforementioned "robot"

I like Perez, hope he can turn a few heads.

well i hope someone dethrones the robot cos hes very bad for boxing so boring and negative, its a shame he was champion when the heavyweight division was so weak, would like to see how he would do against prime tyson.lewis, bowe, holyfield etc

Perez has definite skills but he is a small heavyweight, I also feel his power is overestimated aswell

looking forward to this fight at the weekend, even more so than the main event involving Golovkin.

Perez supposedly had the most testing camp of his career and passed with flying colours, so it will be interesting to see how he fares sat night.

I see the bookies have Mago as a slight favourite, I fancy Perez to win by a wide UD.

Mago has been the slight favourite all week, but this has changed in the last few hours... they are practically the exact same now(perez just about favourite with PP)

edit: Mago still favourite on boyle

Really shows how little guys fighting below World title level get. Perez and Abdusalamov are seen as 2 decent Heavyweight prospects, fighting each other in a 50/50 fight and it's highly likely at least one of them will get a title shot (or at least an eliminator for a title shot) some day.

Their purses:, $40,000 (~€29,500) Abdusalamov, and $30,000 (~€22,100) Perez. So when all the fees are paid, and everyone is looked after, they'll likely take home about €17,700 and €13,260 respectively (60% of their purse).
Keep in mind this is Abdusalamov's 3rd fight of the year and will be Perez's 2nd.
    A real hard living....

If Perez is getting 22k after tax I'd imagine that will leave him with about 15k. plus payments for trainers, promoters, cutman, sparring partners etc I'd be very surprised if he was left with more than 10k.

EDIT: where did you find that info btw? Interesting

The 60% bit was me estimating what he'd be paying to, managers, trainers, cutsmen and etc, I know tax varies state by state in America, and probably also depends on where you're deemed to be resident so I've no idea what he'll get taxed, but the basic point of him not making very much stands.

It was from one of Dan Rafael's tweets, despite being an annoying and often biased man he is in the know (and could be relied upon as a credible source). Golovkin got $400,000 btw, while Stevens is getting $290,000 if that interests you at all.

Jesus that is certainly earning your money! Hopefully he has a good win and gets some exposure.

There are guys in the top 10 in their division at the world level in boxing who barely scrape a living. It's a fairly unrewarding line of work.

Makes the lack of activity from Perez even more baffling.

    Perez weighed in at 235.8lbs.

Not too bad but would have preferred to see him sub 230lbs.

Rafael is definitely biased but useful to follow all the same.

What time is this on lads?
I've seen Perez in the flesh a few times.
Last I heard he was after losing interest in boxing.
    Hope he does well tonight!

Can't wait for the Perez fight, a proper 50/50 fight! Bookies can't split them!

    Perez UD

Perez on points would be my idea of a good bet. Perez has a good bit of experience getting rounds in the bank.

What time roughly is perez due in the ring??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,472 ✭✭✭Kev M

Bets are on Perez and since Paddypower had Stevens at 9.5 I just had to have a shot :D. Should be two good fights. I'd imagine will start around 3am.

Sat 1 on Astra 19e are showing the Golovkin fight, coverage starting at 1.50 till 4am. So hopefully they may show the perez fight.

Mike looked good in that round! Got caught with the odd single shot but looked far more skilfull and rounded.

Tight round there. Perez the more skillful boxer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

2-1 Perez for me, think he lost the last round.

He's different quality but this could go either way. Both men gassing, Perez cause he isn't in shape, Abdusalamov because his nose is ****ed and he's being made to miss a lot.

For heavies this is a really entertaining fight.

Abdu is a brutally strong man and I've seen him before just overwhelming opponents with sheer physicality. I thought in the first Perez looked far too skilful, but Ab is landing more and more and doesn't seem too affected by what's being landed on him.

Perez taken some hard shots in the last 2 rounds

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Took alot of punches in that round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Beginning to think I was too quick to pass judgement in the first. Abdu looking the better bet at this stage, mainly due to conditioning and desire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

2-2 but perez in a bit of bother

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,337 ✭✭✭moneyman

Perez is a better boxer than this guy, but his conditioning is letting him down. With all that time on his hands, can he not get himself into tip-top shape? I'm not even talking about physique, but stamina-wise. He looks a little gassed already. Hopefully he gets the win because he's clearly more talented.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Better round for Perez there. Wouldn't like to have money on this fight. It's going back and forth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

    3-2 perez?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Good round for Mike. 3-2 Perez.
