Tyre replacement - rule-of-thumb

    Apologies if this question has been asked and answered before. Can anyone offer a rule-of-thumb or general guidance as to the mileage/km point at which a road bike tyre should be replaced.

    Obviously, assuming no marks, damage other than normal wear. Don't want to use the 'puncture yardstick' as a basis, as the point is to try and avoid these if at all possible. If it is of any consequence, I am using Mavic Yksion Pro Griplink and Powerlink tyres.

    Varies massively between tyres.

    If you buy a tyre with a wear indicator you don't need a rule of thumb.
