Where to go in Spain 2014

    Hi,
My girlfriend and I are already looking at holidays for next Summer (It's the miserable rain today!) We would like to go to Spain but to be honest I get very overwhelmed looking for places to go, there is too much choice really.

We would like to stay in self catering accommodation and want to avoid the more expensive touristy areas like Salou and large cities like Barcelona.

Can you guys recommend somewhere you have been maybe? Something like a small town with a bit of life to it, plenty of bars and restaurants! We are both in our early twenties but do not like the idea of Ibiza or anywhere like that.

For the past 3 years we went to La Zenia based on a friends recommendation and loved it. Next year we'd like a bit of a change in scenery but I can't nail down any place that I really like the look of.

Nerja stands out at the minute, has anyone been? Any other towns (preferably by the sea) similar that you might recommend.

    Thanks,
    Barry.

Nerja has a really good balance to it, unlike most of the other tourist towns. I'm not a big fan of sun holidays but really enjoyed Nerja. Loads of options restaurant wise, a few bars and no public order issues at all.

Agree totally regarding Nerja. Lovely beach, lots of restaurants but somehow not "touristy". If you enjoyed LaZenia I think you will really like Nerja.

Thanks guys, sounds like Nerja is really nice? Might start looking at a few apartments!

    Any other towns or villages?
