Not going to be using the bike for a while, is there anything I need to do?

    Hiya, might not be using the bike for a while, is there anything I need to do? Should I let a bit of the pressure out of the tyres, should I lube the chain, etc, etc. Any thoughts gladly accepted?

    Short while: clean it, lube chain & all cables, wipe anywhere that might rust with WD40 or similar, keep tyres inflated and hang bike up.
    Long while: sell it and buy something when you're back on the road.

    Perhaps loosen the seat post or take it out to stop in sticking over winter.

    Leave the chain in the small ring and smallest sprocket, this will reduce cable stretch and leave front and back derailleurs with minimum tension on their springs. Similarly, if your brakes have an open position, leave them open. Also lube everything up with some grease and cover it in a sheet if it is going in the shed.

    Excuse my ignorance - what's an open position for brakes?:confused:

    As per gears, cable stretch and spring tension will be reduced with the brakes open.
