Claiming for new child

I recently gave birth to my second child and was wondering how I got about claiming the payment for a dependent child? Do I need to register their birth and get their PPS number before I do this?

I also wanted to ask is it possible to have one social welfare claim for my whole family. At the moment myself and my husband are receiving a weekly job seekers allowance payment, with both of us receiving a half payment for each of our children. Is it possible for me to claim for us all? I.e. my full payment, plus him as a dependant adult and full rate for our dependant children? If so, how do I go about this?

I feel this would make things easier having one payment coming on the same day every week, rather than two smaller payments on different days of the week.

You need to register the child and get the pps number first then claim ,
You could have a joint weekly payment if suits you'd better ,
    It breaks down as
    188 flat rate
    Adult dependant, 124.80
    Child dependant ×2 , 59.60

    Total of 372.40 pw

There is no problem with doing this but it may effect the dependants person's ability to do a course / job bridge scheme in the future.
