Speeding on Lucan bypass

    Hi,

Seems to be a lot of old threads on this but nothing recent so I'll give it a lash here. Basically, I got a notification this morning that I was travelling at 72kph in a 60kph zone in this location last Monday.

However, my issue is that I don't think the van was in the 60kph zone; I think he was in the 80kph zone. It is always in the same spot along that stretch (the main reason I was only going 72), and I have often passed it at the same or even slightly faster than that, but was never caught before.

I rang the helpline and told them my predicament and he said that perhaps there was a temporary 60kph zone for road works, etc. However, I rang Dublin CoCo and they told me there was none on the evening in question.

I forwarded this email onto npo@garda.ie and now I am waiting for a response.

The biggest worry I have is that, if I have it wrong and it is actually in a 60kph zone, I have passed the van at least once more since that doing roughly the same speed... I can't afford to be racking up points/fines like this, particularly when I didn't think I had even committed an offence.

In my own mind, the 60kph zone (the sign for it anyway) is located just before the sliproad for the M50, after the Liffey Valley Road merges.

Has anyone else here been caught in a 60kph zone here? I always assumed the van was watching the 80kph zone. I will be distraught if it turns out to be 60 and I have racked up 4/6 points in a week...

From mccoys motors to the dead mans inn it's 80kmph. Then it drops to 60.

There hasn't been any road works on that stretch for a long time.

Get the garda to send you the picture of the (alleged) offence so you know exactly where it was taken, then you can work out if you actually committed the offence or not and contest it if they don't back down.

I'll wait for their reply to my email first and see then. The only place the van could have been to be inside the 60 zone would be the bus stop. As far as I can say, it wasn't there. Has anyone ever seen the van in the 60 zone?

I'm starting to doubt myself now because I'm worrying about it...

    It's only a speeding ticket
    Don't sweat it.

It's part and parcel of motoring,

unless you're hitting 6 or 8 points insurance companies don't care

If the one last week sticks, that means I can expect another one for yesterday morning... That brings me up to 6. Insurance is one thing, but if I pick up 4 points in a week on a stretch of road that I was purposely obeying what (I think) the speed limit is, then it'll be a long 2 years...

    3 years..........

and i know exactly what your saying as i use this road myself,

if its parked in the green lay by then its in the 80 zone and you should contest its location etc.

Yeah I think it was in the 80, but I can't remember correctly. All I know is that it seems to be parked in the same place along there every time I go in; I assumed it was still in 80 zone because I didn't see a 60 sign until after it just before the bus stop.

It's not where the van was that matters, it's where you were when the reading was taken. As vibe666 said, ask for a copy of the pic and you'll be able to figure it out from there.
