Feckin Car Stereo Won't Work

Bought a new car stereo in Halfords yesterday. Installed it this morning and all working. Great. Until, that is, I switched off the engine and the bloody thing lost its memory. Clock, stations. Gone. I had a look at the manual and it suggested that the harness might not be fitted correctly, so I adjusted. I even went and tightened the terminal connections on the battery just incase it was something to do with that, but to no avail. Has anybody come across this before and if so, what fixed it? Cheers.

You have it wired incorrectly. The switched feed from the ignition switch is connected to what should be a permanent live from the battery.

I assume you just plugged the new radio into the old harness and the old radio was fine?
What radio is the new one and what was the old one?

I've just had a re-read of the manual there and it says that the red and yellow wires may sometimes need to swapped and they've provided an easy access method of doing that so gonna do that now and hopefully it works.

Bang on Biko. How right you were. Wired wrong. All sorted now. Cheers. Was the stock Zafira radio. Great while it lasted bit one of the kids dropped a few coins in the cd player slot and it was causing a short to the speakers. Probably would have been fine if I'd gone to the effort of takin it apart and removing the money, bit I'm not that patient. Got a cheap ould Sony (CDX-GT270MP), half price in Halfords.
