Has anyone heard when the proposed new Aldi in Rush is going to start building? The local Tesco badly needs the competition. Their prices seem to be going up and up!

I asked again at aldi in santry and they seemed to feel there had been a plan but it no longer on the cards. It's such a shame. Without the competition Tescos prices are climbing rapidly.

According to Cllr O'Leary at last months area meeting Lidl is moving to the EuroSpar in Kelly's Bay, Skerries. Perhaps the rumours are confusing Aldi and Lidl

I'm sure all the boys in rush would love to see this on their door step. Sign up said Irish curly kale but every prepack said origin UK in aldi in finglas.

Any particular reason you ask about this? Just curious.

    Hi LeoB

Well just out of interest really the main street in Rush especially down near skerries road is very dilapidated. Would be nice to see it get a lift. Also cheaper groceries wouldn't go astray either

It's an awful shame we're still having to look at these derelict houses everyday.

Anyone ever hear what the hold up is/was? Or will it ever go ahead?

I emailed aldi Ireland about it to see. Got a call back that evening, basically saying they don't have that info at hand but will let me know when it opens. hmmmm

Well they are in expansion mode so they're likely to open somewhere near you. Also I've heard both them and Lidl drive really hard deals with landlords and they'll walk away if they're not getting the rent they want. Aldi/Lidl operate on tiny margins so if the rent is over a certain level the store will not be profitable for them. I'm just speculating here, nothing more, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were in negotiations with a landlord somewhere and he wanted a higher rent due to 'the economic recovery' that so far seems to be a media led pipe dream to most people I know.

I dont think the rent would be a killer in Rush at the moment especially in that area.

It would be a godsend if it did happen though as that part of the street is an awful mess at moment.

I heard a few months ago that this would be going ahead by Christmas and was just waiting on some legal matters to proceed. Still no sign of activity though. Any one else heard anything? Really looking forward to not having to travel to Santry for my favourite supermarket!

Until you actually see workmen on site I wouldn't believe any of the gossip.
Everyone loves to be an "in the know" but the reality is they don't know jacksh1t.
