BOX BLIGHT

Fans of Buxus will probably be familiar with this seasonal problem which occurs when weather conditions become hot and sticky resulting in rapid deterioration of plant health. In recent weeks I have noticed signs of blight in a number of well established buxus planting schemes.

The usual signs are sudden loss of leaf colour, in advanced cases the leaf becomes grey, dry and crumbles like dust. New and well established plants are all vulnerable.

Usually the spread of blight stops when temperatures drop but leaving the plants looking very poorly.

There are specialist spray treatments available to tackle blight (usually applied in spring) and plants should make a full recovery.

My advice would be to check your plants now and make arrangements for treating the plant(s) next spring.
