Must be good if this is third different retelling. Well, hopefully anyway.

Only had a quick flick through it but it looks very similar to the US version in terms of the main characters, I'll watch fully tonight maybe.

Was there enough to differentiate it from the other 2 and make it worth watching the same story a 3rd time ?

    For me, no.

I only meant to watch the pilot of the US remake but it had enough of a difference to make me watch the second and third episode and so on. I think I preferred it to the original. Plus it had Hank who was a great character.
However this remake looks too similar to the original to make me tune in next week.

Still it would have needed to be pretty exceptional to make me watch the same story a third time. :o

Missed it last night, will try to catch up. I liked the original and most of the FX edition. I'm not too bothered about seeing another remake of the plot specifically, but if the atmospherics and characters are good I might stick with it.

It was pretty much scene for scene with the american version of The Bridge, only the setting really has changed. I thought the french police woman was no where near as strong as Diane Kruger. I dont think it was good enough to grab me seeing as I watched and really enjoyed The Bridge. Does anyone know if this show is the reason that The Bridge has not been shown on this side of the atlantic?

didn't keep up with the the US bridge, again once you know the story there's no mystery

Started a bit dull, but improved. Wonder if the French police woman is a little young. Colour palette is closer to the original.

Really enjoying this. The sub plots are nearly more interesting than the main 'truth teller' one. Have never seen The Bridge so cannot comment on how it compares. The French female detective's character is rather rigid but this adds to the tension. I think it's all done well. We are being led to believe that the pimp is the serial killer here, difficult to know though.

In the original the female detectice suffered from Asperger syndrome. It's probably the same here.

Does anyone find the sound low on some of the dialogue? Its fine for background noise etc

Yes I find that too, I have to turn it up to 23 or 24 on the volume which is quite high for my tv. The dialogue is a bit muffled.

Who's our friend with the samuri sword ? Was he in previous episodes or am I getting amnesia ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,941 ✭✭✭krustydoyle

I am enjoying this a lot, its a good storyline and the dynamic between the 2 leads is good viewing.
I didn't realise it was based on another series (The Bridge) but ill see it out to the end.
The french actress playing one of the leads is gorgeous. something about her now.
Hard to know who the killer is too.

First episode he featured in was when he took in the runaway girl for tea. The scene with the sword is the second episode he featured in.

For someone who has never seen any version, which would be the best to pick up - Scandinavian, North American or Franco-British?

The current Franco-British series is fine - there is a certain chic to the French ladies.

Hard to judge the franco-british yet, it is too early but if you don't stick with this version I would choose the Scandinavian. It is slightly better than the American version and with a shorter season doesn't drag the story out.

    Hi.
Just wondering if anyone know where I can watch episode 4?
I missed it and it's not being repeated on Sky and strangely it's not on Sky Go.
    Thanks

I saw in online via the Sky webpage.

It's available On Demand, how many ep are there to follow?

As for the show, it looks like Danny's not going to be able for the story now!

I finished watching this last night. I did not see any of the earlier versions so didn't know what to expect, this obviously made the series more enjoyable.

Over all I thought it was really entertaining, Two things that annoyed me were how implausible the story was at times and the extent of Elise's quirky social awkwardness, some of her interactions were a kin to Sheldon from the big bang theory.

also the mine scene surely the police could have rigged the switch to stay engaged.

the extent of Elise's quirky social awkwardness, some of her interactions were a kin to Sheldon from the big bang theory.

I did point out on the first page that in the original Danish version the female detective suffers from Asperger syndrome which is
an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction

Maybe Elise suffers from the same.

Edit: I see that Sheldon suffers from it too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheldon_Cooper

I realise the writers are suggesting she's got that condition, my issue is that she only seems to realise now that her lack of tact in certain situations hurt peoples feelings, even after years working as a police woman. the scene where Carl has to tell her its OK to lie to console some one is just ridiculous.

You didn't watch the Danish version and I didn't watch The Tunnel but that scene sounds like an exact copy of one in the Danish version.

    Also in the Danish version
her inability to lie played a role in the ending so I presume it was the same in The Tunnel.

yes, but it doesn't make allot of sense.

Season 2 started this week on Sky Atlantic.

Just wondering is anyone watching this.

The full season is available on demand with sky boxsets so I'm up to episode 6, 2 to go, and I'm really enjoying the show.

You can really tell though that it is a SKY programme. In nearly every episode there is a sky news clip for some reason. It is very blatant at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,033 ✭✭✭Slippin Jimmy

You are watching season one. Season two is out now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,811 ✭✭✭joe40

No i'm watching season 2. The one about the plane crash. The full season is available to download on sky boxsets.

I assume this is the first time they done this, although i think Happyish is on demand as well?
Maybe trying to keep up with Netflix?

Have only seen ep 1 yet, must get around to watching more!

I checked the Sky App on my phone. I can only find 2 episodes in catch up. Where did you find them? Can't wait to watch them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,811 ✭✭✭joe40

It is on the sky boxsets. I think you have to have the HD package to access the boxsets. I just upgraded recently since I needed a new sky box which is free with 1 year HD subscriptions.

Just finished the show last night, really enjoyed it.

Well, despite not really knowing what was going on in series 2 I still thoroughly enjoyed this. The show's main strength is the main actors and their chemistry with each other.

Hoping for a season 3 now next year

just finished watching season 2 of this - very good I thought. in many ways I actually prefer it to the Swedish/Danish one. The female cop is less overly autistic is this version and it works well I think. I was getting tired of the over-playing of this by the Swedish Saga by the end of the original version series 3.
The story in season 2 of this UK one is an original creation and there is less of the red-herring suspects thing going on and more of a flowing story. And it's a good story.
I think that a lot of people over-looked this and should really give it a go. I might even watch season 1 now even though they use the same story as the Scandinavian one.

Had completely forgotten it was back, might stick on a few episodes tonight.

Having watched the original series and the American version is there much point watching this version?
I heard that the first series matches the original Danish/Swedish plot but the second series goes off on its own and presumably the same with the third series?

Is there an American version of this?

I haven't seen the original Scandinavian version so I went into this cold and loved it. The performances are great and Dillane and Poesy work really well together.

    Yep, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bridge_(2013_TV_series)

It had two seasons but it's been cancelled.

First season of the tunnel, Bron, and the american version are pretty much the same story. Season 2s all seem to go their own way. You could watch season 2 of the tunnel- its very good.

I watched season 3. thought it was ok. season 2 better imo. found it very unbelievable how the 2 baddies managed to organise all the stuff - it just happened without any explanation or planning - needed more backstory on that side as they didn't exactly have the backgrounds of criminal masterminds.
