Just wondering if people have views on what the best printer for home digital photo printing is?

That would entirely depend on what you want to print - up to A3 size or will A4 do. The absolute best you can get or just very good?

I'd be interested myself. I suppose I'd like a good all rounder. A fine balance between actual price, quality and also reasonable ink prices as I know this is where you can get dusted!

Thanks and the Max for me would be A4 and I would be interested in what the difference in cost would be between very good and best as the best may be a better long term solution.

The Canon Pixma Pro range generally get good reviews. Ive been considering absolutly splashing out on a PRO-1 but thats crazy money but oh so techy awesome

I have a canon Pixma all in one printer, scanner, photocopier. It is now 6 years old and is amazingly reliable. It has never given the slightest trouble and does everything very well.

It uses five individual ink cartridges and the results on good quality photo paper are slightly better than I used to get from a photo mini lab printing from negs. It prints up to A4.

Looking at the current range I would say they mostly use the same printer engine, except the top end one which uses 6 inks instead of five. The main difference between them is probably bells and whistles rather than print quality. The six ink models are of most benefit if you print B&W photos.

I decided I wanted to do some home prints for myself and Family. Having a very Small Budget, I did some research and got this set-up for Cheap. (Total Cost around €300)

    First was Printer.

    2nd hand Canon Pixma Pro 9000 Mark 2 (€200)

Theres alot to learn in regards getting your Printer Settings correct and your monitor Calibrated, but I'm not professional, So I went for what looked good to the naked Eye and quite a few Tests on photoshop.

Now this Printer takes 8 Very expensive Inks around €15-20 each in Harvy Norman/PC world. You can Find them sometimes on Adverts from around a €10 each.

However I went to http://www.printerinkcartridges.ie/ and purchased 2 lots of http://goo.gl/UaloIB

Great not having to worry about Inks for awhile, this lot was around €70 Posted

    Get some Glossy paper (€20-30)

Now to me the Quality is Very Very Good, bad to see in the poor Light pictures I took, but they look great.

I believe when I've spent more time playing the the Settings I'll be happy to mount some of the Prints on my wall.

The Cheap inks are great to practice with, You can use the Canon Professional Inks, but I wouldn't advise it until you learn how to use the printer and the paper media you prefer.

I'm just playing with it, and this is how far I got.

I would not recommend the Canon Pixma MG6350. I just stared using my new machine. It drinks ink and there is a colour cast on Black and White images. - a piece of junk. I am going to the photo labs from now on.
