    As above...
i was always buying my glasses abroad, however this time I decided to shop around.
I was wondering what prices can I expect with the lens strenght of -8,5 on each eye and astigmatism.

Also would I be entitled to any sort of refund from HSE on my lences??

I appreciate any help in this matter

Depends where you go. Some opticians like the one im a technician in charge €130 for a set of 1.74 high index plastic lenses the thinnest plastic lens possible( other opticians up to €400+ )then the cost of the frame can vary from €59 up too a few hundred. Hse will give an allowance of around 43 euro. Or u could get the free glasses through the hse but with a prescription like that if the frames a bit big u could be stuck with lenses that are around 10mm thick.

If you are covered on your medical card you will get the full cost of your basic lenses and frame covered. Chose a place with a good optician and you can get thinner lenses for an additional payment. You will need an anti reflection coating too and they can vary in price and quality much like anything else. You will pay anything from €20 upward for a frame but let the optician guide on the frame because that will have a big effect on the final product.

So, in brief, it'll cost you €0 up to what ever you care to pay.

At that prescription keep in mind that you wear them every day in front of your face. If you change your glasses once every 2yrs €365 would be 50c a day so not so bad for something you couldn't do without.
