I'm having a new system fitted and am wondering what is currently rated amongst the better boilers. We're after a ca. 25KW gas fired combi.

I've used a Baxi Genesis for the last 13 years and apart from a sticking diverter valve in recent times (which seems to be an issue on this type of boiler), it's given trouble-free service.

13 years is a long time however and Baxi now might not be like Baxi then. I might even have been a lucky Baxi owner and got a good 'un from what wasn't a great boiler in the main.

One gripe I'd have is the lag between tap on to getting hot water (with only 5 metres of pipe between me and the boiler). About 20 secs before you detect any warmth with full heat a few seconds after that. Seems like a bit of a waste of water

Other concern would be the way in which my wife uses the hot water which is on/off/on/off/on/off ..... whereas mechanical sympathy led me to automatically consider (if that's not a contradiction in terms) using cold or else filling a sinkful of hot instead of repeated on/off of the tap. I'm not so sure I'd have gotten as many trouble-free years from the old Baxi had I been married for the duration of it's tenure. I gather there are combi's which have a small store of hot water on board to give more rapid response/reduce (perhaps) on/off cycling.

    And insights would be welcome...
