does anyone know what the story is with the farm walks etc. the website might aswell not be there and local clubs around here havn't a clue whats going on. are the committee doing the rounds to clubs like waterford were?? dont think its after getting the same hype, only 2 weekends away!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,083 ✭✭✭bogman_bass

No. They aren't. First time I've heard of a rally commitee not putting the mileage in.
You can book a spot on the farm walks if not a delegate but there is a fee for bus+lunch

Its interesting to see how things have changed so much in this country in the last few years. A few years ago if you said in a night club you were a farmer you were laughed at and branded a poor pauper. Now this weekend at the rally every second person you talked to was from a non farming background. There's nearly as much non farming people in macra now as farmers themselves.Interesting how things change in a few years

I'm in a club with 50+ members and I'm the only farmer

whoo thats unbelievable. Which club is that ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,083 ✭✭✭bogman_bass

    Athboy.

    What club are you in?

Also remember that you have one of the strongest clubs in the country at the moment in the middle of Dublin.

One very prominent Member in the south wont talk about farmin in macra because thats his release to get away from farming.

guys and girls, what do you actually do in Macra, if you dont mind me asking.

Spend your time looking for action, same as anywhere else really

im in tge ballindaggin/kiltealy macra. Irs not a very big club. Very hary to get new members. They all think its full of randy oul farmers. It wouldn't be the case if they joined up to see what its about

Ah now in fairness, my local one (Redcross in Wicklow) does loads of other things, debating, stockjudging, farm walks, tag rugby, bowling, cinema, table quiz etc.

Drink and party from the sounds of things

thats a big part of it alright.

    6 key areas:
    Agriculture
    Travel
    Performing arts
    Public speaking
    Sport
    Community

I do a lot of the stage and speaking competitions myself
Got to see a good bit of the world with it too: Krakow, Paris, London, Riga, Budapest and Hidelburg

I'd be lying if I said that the courting wasn't part of it to. I could name 20 or so married couples that met through macra. I recon its probably the bigest dating agency in the country

But I think the biggest thing is personal and ledership development. I can honestly say I wouldn't be half the man I am today if it wasnt for it.

It isn't for everyone but I think the vast majority would get something out of it

I would have to second bogmans opinion there. macra changed me in so many ways for the better that I cannot even go about explaining them all. wife never was in macra but she went to mount wolseley on Saturday to the pool with the kids and she came home and told me that the kids will have to get involved when they are old enough as the craic they were having was mighty. she feels sorry now that she never got involved

pick and choose what you want to do. you could be going most night of the week with it if you want or once a fortnight if that's what appeals to you.

Club meeting once every 2 or 3 weeks.
Competitions usually at weekends depending on the county.

feel free to PM me about it
