King size mattress, 5' vs 150cm

I need to buy a King size mattress. I visited several retailers (including IKEA). They all claim that they sell "Irish King" size mattresses, but after measuring the mattresses on display they all were 150cm rather than 152cm (5') wide.

I don't want to buy a 150cm mattress as it leaves a gap between the bed frame and mattress. Where can I buy a King size mattress with the dimensions of 152cm x 198cm (60" × 78")? Thanks.

King size is usually 160 x 200cm, I don't think you will notice a 1cm gap on each side of a base. 152cm vs 150cm isn't much to worry about.

Look up bigmickey.ie here on boards. There are a few very large threads about them. I have used them a few times. Over all very good company. They can supply mattresses any length, any width and any height and very fast service. They sell odd shape ones made to order for like caravans and boats also. It's a big place in Longford and free delivery. I'd say you will find what you want at a bargain price too.

In the Continental Europe the dimensions of King size bed/mattress are 160cm x 200cm (IKEA sell these beds and mattresses). However, in UK/Ireland the dimensions are 60in × 78in, which is 152cm × 198cm.

    2cm gap actually looks awful.

You will find loads of bigmickey fans here on boards mark71.
I couldnt understand it for a while but after buying two crap mattresses in one year from a "bargain" shop here in Dublin thats copying his name I decided to take the drive out to Longford and see for myself. Its kind of a Boards.ie thing and I wouldnt have know about it myself except for reading other posters.
Just a couple of weeks ago I bought a second bed for my parents place from him. Wouldnt go anywhere else for price and comfort. He delivers all around the country.

My advice would be dont be put off by having to drive to Longford but Phone Mick first and tell him exactly what you want and he will tell you then and there if he can sort you out.
Phone numbers are on the website http://www.bigmickey.ie/shop/index.php?main_page=contact_us

Thanks Ambersky. It certainly must be a boards.ie thing. I am not sure I would be comfortable buying from a shop that opens for 3 days each month.

Wow I havent logged into this for a while.
Micks shop in Longford on the N4 certainly isnt only open for a couple of days a month. It is open every week. I know I have been there several times and have been treated with nothing but courtesy and have always got a real bargain on whatever I was looking for.

When I first heard about bigmickey I too thought it was a joke but I had bought a mattress from a shop on the Northside of Dublin that now calls itself by a name that is a twist on the bigmickey name. The mattress was crap, sagged after about two months even though I paid €600 for it. After some hassle a company rep from the manufacturer came out and inspected it I got a replacement. The lads carrying it away said "its not another ....... Mattress, is it?" They knew they were crap and the replacement was just as bad.

So then I decided to see if all the fuss on boards was true because I thought I just couldn't get a bed that would be suitable for my back problems without spending over a thousand.
I could have bought a very decent well know branded mattress from Mick at half the price it would have cost in a shop in Dublin but I chose to go all out and buy a Harrison mattress
http://www.harrisonbeds.co.uk/collections/ortho-tailor It only cost me €100 more than I had paid for my crap mattress earlier in the year. I have to say everything I heard about the Harrison mattress is true and I have had it for a few years now, it is the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on. I love that mattress and I bought another one for my parents house.

Its funny you cant trust everything you read on boards to be sure. In fact it is some of the most cynical and assured posters who are spouting the most nonsense but sounding like they know what they are talking about.
I can vouch for Mick 100% at this stage. My mother is now having difficulty rising up and out of her bed unassisted and only this week I got an electric bed for her from Mick like one I saw in the Ideal Homes exhibition for a quarter of the price I saw it there. I wrote a check to pay for it in thousands instead of hundreds  big bloody mistake, and Mick rang me the next day to tell me I had overpaid him and tore up the cheque. It was embarrassing to make such a silly mistake but Mick is a gent and the only thing I can say is dont mind the cynics, sometimes praise is well founded and true, just go see the place and the prices for yourself.
