Specialised Waxing

Can anyone recommend somewhere in Dublin that does discounted specialised waxing on particular days of the week? I am on a ridiculously tight budget at the moment so need to find somewhere cheaper. I work flexi time so I'm hoping I can find somewhere. I know there was a place in rathmines doing 50% off on Mondays but that offer is gone, galligans is now only 35% off (used to be 50%) on Mondays and Tuesdays but even with that it's still quite expensive ;(

I had it done a while ago on a Wednesday, and it was 50% off (Hollywood was 25 euro). I'm not sure of the exact street, but it was in Dublin 1, off one of those streets off o Connell street, maybe it was down past Henry street or past abbey street. It was upstairs and it was run by polish ladies, and they were good. (They used strip wax though).

I found a place (Aspens in Merrion Sq.) with 50% off on Wednesdays and so I went there for full leg and Brazilian. Never again.

    1. No rooms - just stalls, a whole row of them, like fitting rooms. Tiny inside, about twice the width of the table. Closed off by curtain. Have to listen to all conversations outside and particularly listening to the same upselling of laser hair removal to various other customers repeatedly was very annoying. Still, not the worst part of the visit there.
    2. Therapist seemed very very inexperienced - repeatedly going over the same areas, using the same strip until it was about to fall apart, pressing really hard etc. Full legs took an hour, no exaggeration.
    3. Strip wax was used for 90% of bikini area. So unbelievably painful, I actually felt my eyes welling up with tears. (I'm actually shivering even thinking about it, and I've had this waxing done loads and loads of time elsewhere)
    4. Ridiculously overpriced normally considering the setup (almost the same price as the much acclaimed fancy waxing salons in town - the likes of Brazilia, Urban Wax, Waxperts etc) and so 50% off was still expensive and even more so given the experience.
    5. Overall there seemed to be a real drive on here to minimise their own costs to the detriment of the customer experience and the treatments themselves.

I've kept this brief, but I wouldn't go back here EVER AGAIN even if they did it for free every time. I've seen loads of deals for this place too which I always find offputting (not the deals themselves, I love deals, just when there's repeatedly multiple deals for a place I always feel it's not a good sign!)

I took a risk here and it definitely wasn't worth it - they definitely don't have any specialisation in waxing and I would stick to experienced waxers from now on - either where I know they've had good reviews for years for waxing or are waxing only establishments with good reputations. The pain is definitely not worth the risk.

Further out from town... Top to Toe in Stoneybatter do great waxing at great prices. The lady there has been doing it for about 20 years (Ruth) so knows what she's doing. I would recommend it. Think it's around €30/€35 max for Brazilian

I got impetigo from that salon, after a treatment, when they were on Camden street. Also, it seems like she does not actually hire staff as they are ALL on work experience.

It really seemed like the therapist hadn't a clue what she was doing. Like I really can't stress this enough. It was a horrible horrible horrible experience. I'm lucky if I escaped without infection so, there was endless double-dipping going on too. I don't know how they generate ANY repeat business.

    Strip!

Honestly I was scared at fist when I saw her coming with it but the woman (Sophia) was the quickest most pain free waxer I have ever gotten!

Aspens is the absolute worst and frankly I'm surprised more people don't develop infections and other problems upon leaving there. I am a beauty therapist and had been carrying out treatments from home for a few years but wanted to boost my salon experience to get back into the industry in a full time position. Aspens were advertising a kind of internship for people to build up their salon experience and receive training in areas outside the college curriculum such as laser hair removal, specialized waxing, threading etc. I quickly realized that after a week working there I had never worked with the same girl twice and that I was currently one of the longest serving staff members apart from the owner and manager. So, they are getting these poor girls in to work all day for free, which is obviously so they can save money on wages. They constantly undermine the staff in front of clients and they are completely incapable of performing treatments of any standard themselves. Clients can expect to have up to 3 different therapists tag teaming for leg waxing and possibly 2 for a facial. Now onto the hygiene. Oh merciful heavens. The steamer used during facials contains a brown water with lumps in it, gee thanks for opening up my pores and refilling them with gunge guys, well played. They use metal spatulas for waxing which took me an hour to clean (there are only 6) with equipment cleaner upon which I found hairs in each layer of wax encrusted on these infection wands. After I had cleaned them and left them in the kitchen to sterilize I witnessed one being used to spread sauce on a sandwich, 'nuff said. I am very professional in work and it stresses me out when clients are left waiting for over half an hour in a cubicle half in the nip and freezing because those in charge are performing treatments on each other. On my first day 2 separate clients asked for my phone number to treat them in my home because they would never go back there. They have no return business except for laser and that's just to finish the course of treatments. I'm so angry even writing this post! I'm currently still looking for salon work, I just couldn't have my name associated with that place, it's never going to be worth a visit until it's under new direction, gutted and refurbished. They could use the money they save on wages and buying Dermalogica off the back of a truck to good use. *and breathe*
